Dec. 6, 2012: State Police block protesters outside the Senate chamber at the State Capitol Building in downtown Lansing, Mich. (AP/The State Journal)
Those two union guys are exactly the kind of workers I’d want to hire. /sarc
Michigan requires five days to pass before the MI house and senate can reconcile and finally pass the bills (ie, next Tuesday). Expect an ugly five days with lots of arm twisting to try to prevent final passage.
Republicans won...get over it.
I’m glad someone finally said “enough”! Too bad congress doesn’t have even half the backbone!
Good, get it through before the unions could organize their thugs. They always look the same. I wonder if any of them even own a razor (including the women).
Union thugs lose ,,, Na ,, Na ,, Na,, Na ,, Hey ,, Hey ,, hey ,,, goodbye . . .
So, the unions are taking a hard stand against allowing people to chose their associations. I thought that the left was pro-choice. Their hard stance against choice is further proof that they are not for choice, instead they are pro-murder, period!
The problem, of course, is that this home, along with most of the other homes in Michigan, is underwater. The problem is that labor expenses in Michigan are so high, BECAUSE of the labor policies there, that people (like me) are abandoning the state. This law is one glimmer of hope that this problem can be reversed.
“”Michigan Republicans draw union ire””
They do that just by existing, why is today any different.
This story has made my day!!
It has all the elements I would NEVER expect from Republicans nowadays.
1.) Actually using the leverage they have to pass
conservative measures.
2.) Cleverness and surprise in planning.
3.) The plan is well executed with some unapologetic head
knocking mixed in.
Seriously I still can’t believe these are Republicans doing this. Awesome!!
Bravo Governor Snyder, Lt. Gov. Calley and all Republicans in the legislature!!
The faculty at the college in Maine where I teach is represented by the Maine State Employees Association which is part of the SEIU. At least some of them are flying to Michigan for the week to try to prevent the law from coming into effect.
(I am president of the faculty union and about 1/2of our members are conservatives-so it has been a real treat dealing with the SEIU.) Our new field rep came from Wisconsin!!
As a former Michigan resident, color me stunned.
(can’t really call myself a Michigander being originally from that “O” place to the south...)
If labor unions are so wonderful for their members, why should the union bosses fear the loss of coercion so much? Why can’t they trust that potential members will see the value of the union and voluntarily pay dues in exchange for the benefits they receive?
In the meantime, congrats to Governor Snyder, whom many here had dismissed as a RINO.
Now that same Michigan legislature - and other GOP legislatures around the country - should reform their state election law to clamp down on fraud and cheating. It's not only the right thing to do, but the only thing to do, because if they neglect election fraud problem, the unions will find a way to fix the next election to put their their 'Rat pals in their seats.
I wonder how long before the unions become “racists”? Let me explain. Obama is going to open the flood gates to millions of illegals who will now be able to compete for those jobs they previously could not. Will all you progressives now be against opening the border?
Yes, this would have happened to some extent without RTW but now unions are cannot prohibit applicants out.
Imagine having to be along side someone who is not paying their fair share in dues and still is enjoying all the same benefits.
It would be like taxes - someone paying more and a greater share of their income while someone else not paying as much or at all enjoying the benefits.
Progressives have a funny religion.
If one does not want to work in an open shop, then find another job in a closed one.
Forcing someone to pay to work. Isn’t that what Kwame Kilpatrick was doing?
