RICHMOND, Va. VCU womens volleyball coach James Finley is fighting to get his job back after he says he was fired because he is gay.
Finley, 52, has filed a complaint with VCUs Office for Institutional Equity. University spokesperson Pamela D. Lepley said an investigation is being conducted and must be completed within 45 days.

Do us a favor and take your pro-fag crap somewhere else. This guy is sick in the body and mind.
What if he was black or white or a golfer or a tea pot collector or a Nascar fan? Just WTF?
“Its one thing to not renew him when his contract is up”
According to CNN that’s exactly what they did. They told him they were not going to renew his contract.
Before this really good year, his record was 126-106. The school wanted to go in a new direction.
Chances are, his replacement will be a lesbian.
I know??? That is really a queer twist to this story, isn't it?
The last paragraph of his bio on VCU’s web site:
Finley earned a degree in range science from Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas in 1983. He has one son, 30-year-old Carlton, who resides in Richmond and works at Richmond Ford. Finley and John Sternlicht were married in 2010 and reside in Richmond with Johns youngest son Jeremy. Johns other son David graduated from Washington and Lee in 2011 and resides in Arlington, Va.

If this couldn't cure him, nothing will.
>> 25-6 and hes fired? Thats B.S. Hope the school gets hit hard. That is not a firing offense.
So you believe the coach is being persecuted? And you’re familiar with the circumstances that led to non-renewal?
>>So, he is the wife?<<
He not the spiker, he the spikee.
He is claiming to be married. But the Commonwealth does not recognize same sex marriage. Maybe the school has had to deal with issues with this person challenging everything all the time. Better to be rid of a person who would rather live by the laws of say Massachusetts.
“That is not a firing offense.”
Misleading headline. His contract was not renewed. That is not ‘being fired.’
Keep that in mind when you hire new employees.
It is remotely possible that the volleyball coach was fired just for being homosexual, but in almost all of these "Some bad thing happened JUST BECAUSE HE WAS GAY!" stories, Matthew Shepard etc., the facts fail to support the allegation.
Whether this guy's story is true or false, VCU's insurers will probably have to shell out tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars to pay him off. This is just the 2012 reality, and employers fail to take note of it at their peril.
I would prefer to live in a society of individuals, not members of oppressor/victim groups, where firing a gay man would pose no more risk to a business than firing a straight man. I don't live in such a society.
it embraces diversity, and how it always made the coach, his husband, John Sternlicht, and their three sons feel welcome, not tolerated.
That is just SICK!
Ever notice how these old perverts alwasy have male children?
25-6 and hes fired? Thats B.S. Hope the school gets hit hard. That is not a firing offense
Really? Ask Alex Smith of the 49er’s about that!

My husband and I were talking about it, and we cant just walk away. So, he is the wife?
If this couldn’t cure him, nothing will.
LOL! I think a straight man may lose concentration coaching so many pretty gals.
Chances are, his replacement will be a lesbian.
And do not be surprised that it is...
Not sure if his sexuality is the reason for his non-renewal...but I suspect that his gender may be the real reason
Guaranteed if this was a lesbian, she would have been offered a new contract after a 25-6 season and overall record
One of the biggest issues in womens sports is that the “Lesbian Left” does not want men coaching the womnen’s college teams. This has been an issue in college basketball for years, and it is also in other womens sports
Alex Smith wasn’t fired, he still has a job and is earning his paycheck. I see no comparison at all to your analogy.
