It is remotely possible that the volleyball coach was fired just for being homosexual, but in almost all of these "Some bad thing happened JUST BECAUSE HE WAS GAY!" stories, Matthew Shepard etc., the facts fail to support the allegation.
Whether this guy's story is true or false, VCU's insurers will probably have to shell out tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars to pay him off. This is just the 2012 reality, and employers fail to take note of it at their peril.
I would prefer to live in a society of individuals, not members of oppressor/victim groups, where firing a gay man would pose no more risk to a business than firing a straight man. I don't live in such a society.
