Next week the United Nations' International Telecommunications Union will meet in Dubai to figure out how to control the Internet. Representatives from 193 nations will attend the nearly two week long meeting, according to news reports.
"Next week the ITU holds a negotiating conference in Dubai, and past months have brought many leaks of proposals for a new treaty. U.S. congressional resolutions and much of the commentary, including in this column, have focused on proposals by authoritarian governments to censor the Internet. Just as objectionable are proposals that ignore how the Internet works, threatening its smooth and open operations," reports the Wall Street Journal.
"Having the Internet rewired by bureaucrats would be like handing a Stradivarius to a gorilla. The Internet is made up of 40,000 networks that interconnect among 425,000 global routes, cheaply and efficiently delivering messages and other digital content among more than two billion people around the world, with some 500,000 new users a day. ...

The U.N. needs to be closed down.
Completely.
the crooks at the United Nations only want see how such they can steal
It is already technically possible for them to create an alternative to the internet. All they have to do is create their own DNS structure in the manner that they want and then have their ISPs connect to their internet.
The trick will be to get people to actually USE their alternative.
The 'internet' is simply an agreement between parties (and their software) to communicate in a specific protocol. A protocol with specific features to allow robust alternatives to damage. Like censorship.

... that is one side. The internet also spreads knowledge and freedom. Do you think they want their world to know the bloody and sick side of Islam ? Or that Islam has created the most backwards people and lifestyle for them?
Given that most of the UN is OIC, I would think their greatest fear is the loss of power and the people coming into the 21st century.
I think revolution through knowledge is on their doorstep.
Ideas and knowledge can destroy them.
Phuque Mohammet. Did I just call the internet police?
“the crooks at the United Nations only want see how such they can steal”
All so consistently Islamic. Raid, steal, destroy. They can’t create.
The Future Must Not Belong To Those Who Slander The Prophet Of Islam
Rule Number Two of the UN Internet Club:
The Future Must Not Belong To Those Who Slander The Prophet Karl Marx
Dust off and nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
The UN or anyone else can try to control the internet and will meet with some success.
However geeks will always find a way around whatever they do.
Is anyone old enough to remember how things really started? Oh yes there was Darpanet and the rest however there were also tinkers who sat in cold basements slaving over blinking grain of wheat bulbs, phone and radio connections.
On the phone side at an agreed upon time one house would contact another and the second house would contact a third and so on. Information was exchanged. There was the precursor of email that was slower than snail mail and didn’t look anything like it does today.
The genie is out. It can’t be put back. There is always a way.
The French underground in Lyon had a complete mail system set up and running in WWII.
All that said...if they try...
COME AND GET ME COPPER!
GO AHEAD. MAKE MY DAY.
He gave me a book I devoured ... "None Dare Call It Treason" and since then, I've come to the conclusion that the problems of America are solved only with violence, revolution and a lot of innocent sacrifice.
MY problem is I don't want to die, so my intellectualism is moot and useless.
I think that if a leader were to come along that I believed in, I'd probably follow orders, but for now .. I think the best I can do is prepare for me and mine.
.. and I hate that part of me.
If this goes down, we may see a revival of the old dial-up BBSes.
“The Internet”
It’s the name commonly given to the interconnection of multiple computers. Some computers are servers - they serve files to the client computers. Client computers ask for files from a server. The computers communicate by putting out messages following a certain set of rules, or protocol.
There is no one object or thing that one can put one’s finger on and say “This is the internet.” It’s the interconnection (see above).
It has no central control point. There is no way to control the internet.
That won’t stop the fascists in the UN and in Washington. They want to tax and control. The inevitable result of their taxing and control is destruction.
Brilliant minds conceived the internet (not Al Gore). It has worked beatifully without government sticking its hands in. So, naturally, now government is going to put its inept hands in it and totally destroy it.
They can only destroy what normal people have built up.
No more UN for US-list
If people want on or off this list, please let me know.
This is the time to draw the line. Freedom of speech is in danger. The US must never, ever hand over control of the internet to a bunch of dictators!
The issues are likely related to naming regulations and agreed-upon taxation.

“None Dare Call It Conspiracy” was the book. Great read and probably suppressed by now into semi-underground.
It debunks Left Right spectrum scale and names names.
I’m glad to have read it, but we need a lot more people who should have read it.
I have same issues as yourself in regard to doing anything about it. My intuition, however, says there are leaders already in the cue, and least likely ones.
Timing is everything.
