Despite speculation to the contrary, no Libyan or non-American diplomats stationed in Benghazi say they knew of the existence or purpose of the CIA annex.
Top Libyan security officials in Benghazi and Tripoli, as well as diplomatic representatives who worked closely with Americans here, said they had no idea about the compound, which unlike the consulate had no signs of American life outside its tall gates. There were no concrete barriers in front or barbed wire on the top of its concrete wall.
Libya's deputy interior minister, Omar al-Khadrawy, and the deputy interior minister for Benghazi, Saleh Daghman, told McClatchy Newspapers they didn't know that the CIA had kept a base there. Neither did the second in command of Benghazi's largest revolutionary brigade, the Libyan Shield. Two consuls from allied nations who met frequently with Americans said they didn't know the CIA annex existed until after the deadly Sept. 11 attack.
Ahmed Langhi, Benghazi's representative to the country's congress, the General National Council, said he didn't think that anyone in the top levels of the Libyan government knew that the CIA was housed there; neither did he.

Thanks Ernest. I bookmarked this one, stored in my Libyan folder. Just when one thinks they have most of the story down, something else pops up. That’s ok. As long as Congress take a responsible approach to come to equitable conclusions on the whole.
“Why were they going to close down the CIA annex in a couple of weeks?”
I would bet because their cover was blown. Several weeks seems like a long time if that’s the case. But that would be my first guess.
“WHITE AMERICANS going into a big COMPOUND in Benghazi and no one knew about this?”
As someone mentioned earlier, if they were going out and about, you would never know they were white Americans.
“WHY did Sean Smith write that they might get killed that night???”
It really bothers me that there has been so little discussion or questions about this in the reporting. Sean Smith said something about “if we don’t die tonight”. They knew their own security was casing the place. And they specifically thought something was going to happen THAT NIGHT. That’s important because it indicates a specific and credible threat was known to them. He said, “tonight”.
The only reason we know that is because he posted that on a video game message board. What was being communicated to DC? What was the specific and credible threat that made Sean Smith, however flippantly, write that?
The only reason we know that is because he posted that on a video game message board.
*************
Interesting coincidence that I read a blurb in the paper that Navy Seals were recently disciplined for giving intel while playing a video game...hmmm? The real news isn’t in the headlines. It’s in the little mentions.
Thanks Ernest.
My speculation:
Al Qaeda found out about the CIA facility through the negotiations with Ambassador Stevens.
Amb Stevens was sent to get the anti-aircraft weapons back that were supplied by the Obama Admin. Perhaps they were going to trade captured terrorists for the weapons.
Al Qaeda figured out where the captured men were being held and decided to gamble on an attack to free them while keeping the anti-aircraft weapons.
I would think twice about flying over the next few years. I expect a multiple airport attack worldwide that would down perhaps a dozen passenger aircraft or more is lurking in our future.
But Al Qaeda will wait for a GOP president so their allies in the US (Democrats) can restart the “connect the dots” narrative.
BTTT!
Well finding the manpads is definitely a worthy mission.
