Update: Campaign officials for Patrick Murphy, Democrat candidate for the congressional district 18 race, are calling their candidate the winner because the St. Lucie Canvassing Board has missed the noon deadline to certify results to the state Division of Elections.
Under Florida law, if the deadline passes with final certified results, the unofficial certified results filed last Sunday stand. Those results show Murphy ahead by .58 percent – above the .5 percent spread which would trigger an automatic recount.
West officials were not immediately available for comment.

The St. Lucie County Canvassing Board resumed ballot counting this morning in the tight congressional race between Republican Rep. Allen West and Democrat Patrick Murphy under the watchful eyes of dozens of attorneys and supporter of both candidates.
anvassing board member Tod Lowery, who regularly updates the audience on the process, explained that the board still had write-in ballots and other questionable ballots from 8 days of early voting to review before the noon deadline for the state’s 67 supervisors of elections to submit their final, certified tallies to the state Division of Elections.
Last Sunday, the canvassing board agree to recount ballots cast the last three days of early voting after election officials revealed that machines had been unable to read some of the electronic memory cartridges. West’s attorneys then sought a recount of all early ballots after the elections office admitted double-counting some ballots and ignoring others on election night.

Every ballot that was cast is easily recoverable. Just count them.
Funny how that works. The courts don’t hesitate to keep voting polls open so that everyone can vote. But keeping a count open so that everyone’s vote counts, if it’s a Republican, isn’t that important.
It won’t happen now, no one in a position of authority will defend what is right.

If Col. West is cheated out of his election, we’re all cheated.
Congress can refuse to seat Murphy thus forcing a new special election.
If Gingrich were speaker Murphy would never be allowed to take a seat but with Boehner as speaker, that wont happen.

"They had all of the votes on six memory cards. One of them wouldn't upload, but the guy in charge Todd Mowry who knows the total recount numbers was quoted earlier as saying "Happy Days" which would indicate he knew that West had more votes.
So, the only reason they "missed the deadline" is a memory card glitch. Murphy and co. want to disenfranchise every vote on that last card. There are lots of people at that recount location screaming bloody murder at this moment."
In a split second, all someone has to do is run a magnet over the memory card and the data would be gone.
At least the Dem “elect” will have to start campaigning again and if things haven’t fallen to the point of no return he will have to stand in less than two years for another election.
But, how many have no faith in elections anymore?
