Gingrich: GOP needs to be "inclusive"
In the aftermath of Mitt Romney's presidential loss last week, Newt Gingrich is joining the cadre of Republicans calling for the Republican Party to more actively reach out to a more diverse electorate, arguing on Monday that the party needs to become more "inclusive."
"I think we need to be inclusive, and I emphasize the difference between inclusive and outreach," Gingrich said Monday morning in an appearance on ABC's "The View." "Outreach is when five white guys have a meeting and call you. Inclusive is when you're in the meeting. And I think we have to understand to be inclusive."
Gingrich, who was joined by his wife Callista on the show, argued that Republicans had "misunderstood the American people" in 2012, and that the GOP can't just wait until 2016 to try to broaden its reach.
"The Republican doctrine of highly paid consultants spending hundreds of millions of dollars on 30-second ads doesn't build a party," he said. "The Republican Party better not wait until 2016. The Republican Party better rethink in 2013 how we're going to deal with the country's issues and do it in a way that the average American looks up and says, you know, those are folks I'm willing to trust with my future. We lost that."
He added that "there were a whole series of fundamental things that were really wrong" with how the GOP framed the 2012 election, including the fact that the Obama campaign so successfully appealed to non-white voters.

LOL. Calling people jackass..might get you some votes. Not. You and your principles have been busted. Glad I didn’t check your previous comments since you said you could do better...
What ethnics do we kick out of the conservative base, or the GOP base?
What ethnic would-be candidates do we reject because they're ethnic?
Are we holding back ethnics and other special interest groups from registering as Republicans in their county if they want to?
Do we stand with hands on gun holsters when these people come to vote?
Are they excluded from our political organizations, womens' clubs, etc.?
When there's a Tea Party rally at the local park, are they shooed away?
It seems to me we'd roll in the grass with pleasure if these special interest groups joined with us.
I'd like to ask these questions point blank to jerks like Gingrich and his equally moronic peers. I'd like to stuff MY answers to these questions right down their stupid throats.
I hope some day they realize they're part of the problem, not the solution.
How much "outreach" did Gingrich do this past election? What activism initiatives did he organize to "reach out" and touch someone? I'll bet he was all over the place, just reachin' on out and singin' kumbayah, oh yah.
Newt, baby, the ethnics and the other groups know where we are.....they're mostly just NOT INTERESTED. unless we (gasp) grease their palms with pork, patronage jobs, free phones, no-work welfare, monthly checks for babies produced, food stamps.....and all the cash they can finagle from Obama's stash.
We live in Realville, Newt. Pray tell us how to do it without paying tribute to the 47 per centers from our non-existant stashes just to get them to join our efforts to save the nation.
Leni
Newt says we should advertise more on Spanish-language networks like Obama did and this makes him a RINO how exactly?
We have to take your word on that and you sound like a politician. Who on the presidential campaign trail didn't have 'principles' AND who did?
I will agree.....you want to get a big chunk of the Latino vote? Go on “Sabado Gigante”......Bush did, and it paid off.
Yeah, you have to consider the source. Of course CBS is going to pick up on the word “inclusive” and presume that Newt means exactly the same thing they do by the word. It is typical mainstream media confirmation biasreinforcing their own preconceptions.
A lot of conservative media, Glenn Beck in particular, were all over the ACORN situation during the 2008 election, but it was nothing but crickets from the same conservative media on ACORN for 2012. Go figure.
I wonder if this is one of the dead corpse’s that voted. They don’t vote conservative.
And we sure did a great job of nominating a candidate who dispelled that myth.
We have conservative or at least Republican media out there now to some degree. Maybe part of the agenda should be advertising FOX, talk radio, Drudge, etc. to more consumers.
Besides, most NON-WHITES have been well trained by the left to be dependent on government and our hard work. THATs why there are so few non-Whites in the Republican party.
Hence why we might want to be more inclusive. The left is including non-whites in their marketing and training. If we don't try to train them in conservatism, why would we expect to get their votes? As long as no one's advocating changing our positions and platform, how can anyone criticize trying to convince more non-whites to join our coalition?
Hey Newt - Does that include conservatives? They were the only group not represented at the convention. Do the math.
In fact... Go take up residence. We don't need you nor do we want your limp-wristed RINO BS diluting the platform.
Thanks for nothing you RINO jackass.
The primary lesson of this election is that we can NOT take any votes away form the Left by being like the Left. Moderate, nice guy, squeaky clean Mitt Romney did not pull ONE vote away from the Left, even though he passed ObamaCare before Obama did! He failed to take any votes from the Left in his home state, where plenty of Democrats voted for him for Governor!! He had no vices and no major faults, he allowed the Left to take ObamaCare off the table during the election, and he ran a polite, no-mud-slinging campaign... and got NOTHING for it.
Instead of trying the "inclusive" approach, and playing identity politics, the GOP either has to step up their own game, and make the Dems play defense... or the GOP should just sit down and die. Period.
This election had the following numbers:
207m eligible voters...
166m registered voters...
120m voted in 2012...
61m voted for Obama...
59m voted for Romney...
Assume ~40m Base Dems went to Obama.
Assume ~40m Base Pubbies went for Romney
Assume that the remaining 40m, the Independents, went to Obama 49-47%, as the exit polls indicated, hence the ~2m vote differential.
Again, CLEARLY, running Moderate candidates does NOT beat a hard-Left identity-group candidate. Instead of playing to their strength, to bridge that 2m vote gap, the GOP needs to target those 46m registered voters who did not vote (most especially the GOP-leaning ones who were NOT motivated by a Moderate)...
they need to target the 40m Independents (and running Moderate gain less than 50% of those, so AGAIN, going after those votes means NOT going Moderate)...
they need to target those 41m voters who ARE eligible, and choose not to even register (while the Dems counter with the 45 million who are of voting age, but NOT eligible, due to felonies, etc)...
THESE groups should be the focus of the "big tent" strategy, and NOT the identity politicking of the Left that we have lost at for two cycles in a row.
And in case the GOP has simply forgotten, or simply doesn't know, the GOP's strengths are in tradition, consistency, logic, history, economics, development, and most importantly, independence. Most Americans DO want smaller government intrusion into their lives. Most Americans want lower taxes, and want less fraud and corruption and waste. Most Americans want to follow a strong leader who they admire and trust. Most Americans know that Socialism is a failing proposition. THESE are the areas where the Left can easily be bested. Lead, follow, or get out of the way of the next Party to arise.
Good point and I learned during the campaign unless I heard it from Newt or his site I wouldn’t believe what the media said because of their spin.
Right now, anything that will give voters reasons why Romney lost to keep their mind off of VOTER FRAUD as the reason.
I believe that Soros along with the ACORN minions and many other liberal operatives are behind the most openly stolen election in history.
There is no way anyone would think that Obama or anyone could get 99 - 100% of the voters in any city or precinct. That is just beyond belief.
Excellent post. It’ll fall on deaf ears. The GOP fanboyz are more about protecting their pet RINO’s than they are actually winning elections and having to stand by their principles.
Thanks for pointing that out!
WHY do you have a problem believing voter fraud DID change the election?
I changed my voter registration from Republican to zilch after McCain won the nomination.
I have seen absolutely no reason to rejoin the party since then.
My meager donations are given to CONSERVATIVES.
Newt, you had me fooled during the primaries.
You will not fool me again.
