The Voters who stayed Home (bitter pill: Republicans re-elected Obama)
National Review Online ^ | 11/10/12 | McCarthy

Posted on 11/11/2012 11:27:31 AM PST by pabianice

The key to understanding the 2012 election is simple: A huge slice of the electorate stayed home.

The punditocracy — which is more of the ruling class than an eye on the ruling class — has naturally decided that this is because Republicans are not enough like Democrats: They need to play more identity politics (in particular, adopt the Left’s embrace of illegal immigration) in order to be viable. But the story is not about who voted; it is about who didn’t vote. In truth, millions of Americans have decided that Republicans are not a viable alternative because they are already too much like Democrats. They are Washington. With no hope that a Romney administration or more Republicans in Congress would change this sad state of affairs, these voters shrugged their shoulders and became non-voters.

“This is the most important election of our lifetime.” That was the ubiquitous rally cry of Republican leaders. The country yawned. About 11 million fewer Americans voted for the two major-party candidates in 2012 — 119 million, down from 130 million in 2008. In fact, even though our population has steadily increased in the last eight years (adding 16 million to the 2004 estimate of 293 million Americans), about 2 million fewer Americans pulled the lever for Obama and Romney than for George W. Bush and John Kerry.

That is staggering.

In this thread it appears that I am merely enraging the monkey.

Would that shoot down the 'stay at home voter' argument?

NO...

"Any Latter-day Saint who denounces or opposes, whether actively or otherwise, any plan or doctrine advocated by the 'prophets, seers, and revelators' of the Church is cultivating the spirit of apostacy..."
(Improvement Era, June 1945, p. 354)

Reinforced here......

MP3 File

This is the audio clip of Dallin H. Oaks, current Mormon Apostle leader, from the PBS documentary, "The Mormons", declaring unequivocally:

"IT'S WRONG TO CRITICIZE LEADERS OF THE (MORMON) CHURCH, EVEN IF THE CRITICISM IS TRUE."

Don't criticize?

And here:

Temple Recommend Questions:

1 Do you have faith in and a testimony of God the Eternal Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost?

2 Do you have a testimony of the Atonement of Christ and of His role as Savior and Redeemer?

3 Do you have a testimony of the restoration of the gospel in these the latter days?

4 Do you sustain the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as the Prophet, Seer, and Revelator and as the only person on the earth who possesses and is authorized to exercise all priesthood keys? Do you sustain members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles as prophets, seers, and revelators? Do you sustain the other General Authorities and local authorities of the Church?

5 Do you live the law of chastity?

6 Is there anything in your conduct relating to members of your family that is not in harmony with the teachings of the Church?

7 Do you support, affiliate with, or agree with any group or individual whose teachings or practices are contrary to or oppose those accepted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

8 Do you strive to keep the covenants you have made, to attend your sacrament and other meetings, and to keep your life in harmony with the laws and commandments of the gospel?

9 Are you honest in your dealings with your fellowmen?

10 Are you a full-tithe payer?

11 Do your keep the Word of Wisdom?

12 Do you have financial or other oblgations to a former spouse or children? If yes, are you current in meeting those obligations?

13 If you have previously received your temple endowment:

Do you keep the covenants that you made in the temple?

Do you wear the garment both night and day as instructed in the endowment and in accordance with the covenant you made in the temple?

14 Have there been any sins or misdeeds in your life that should have been resolved with priesthood authorities but have not been?

15 Do you consider yourself worthy to enter the Lord's house and participate in temple ordinances?

Oh, they can say that their leaders were NOT speaking for GOD when they said    WHATEVER    but that's NOT the same as criticizing!

( Remember fellow Christians:  the Mormon's criticize US because they've been taught that they CAN'T criticize ANY of their leaders; so they HAVE to vent somehow! )

“All Mitt had over Obozo is econmics.”

Spirited: Agreed, and before posturing himself as conservative he publicly described himself as a progressive, a claim he put into action as governor of Mass.

Mitt even boasted of being more pro-gay than Obama and showed himself more than eager to throw the Boy Scouts and public school youth to ‘gay’ wolves wearing dresses..

Had Mitt won, his “conservative” bride would have been betrayed after a brief, blissful honeymoon.

My tiny precinct was certainly busy! The poll manager, a wealthy white Republican farmer who has been voting at that location for fifty or more years said he has NEVER seen it so busy. I have voted there for decades myself and never seen it nearly so busy.

>> yet 8 millions did not turn up either for his side,.

The “8 million” should have turned up for our side. But they didn’t. And now we have another 4 year term of guaranteed Leftism.

Ron Paul supporters stayed home. Why? Several caucus states
Ron Paul won delegates only to be over ruled by state GOP. The ones who made it to the convention walked out after the party passed resolutions by voice vote to make it harder for nonestablishment candidates to win delegates in caucuses. Reason is quite simple, Wall Street bankers. For over a decade Ron Paul’s efforts finally is paying off as it gets a firm foothold in the GOP. Wall Street bankers and proponents of the Fed Reserve can not tolerate that because if the movement grows it is a threat to their interests. One phone call the the GOP (Dems also) beholden to the true power in the US smashed Ron Paul foothold. Ron Paul delegates played by the rules and were told the rules change. So why participate in the GOP if they act like Stalinist Dems? They stayed home. Pretty stiff price to pay placating the Wall Street bankers and Fed Reserves?? Wonderful bunch, one implodes the economy selling liar loan mortgage notes as AAA investments, the other pressures US gov to bailout the bankers by printing money (slowly killing the middle class with inflation) and the GOP willing to cater to their needs and causes an important faction to stay home in a close election giving Obama another four years. Lovely, just lovely.

yes you should be proud Obama won and you helped him destroy this country. bravo

Even in defeat, you cannot see. Amazing. One would think that some introspection would assert itself.

Time for some navel gazing... you were told over and over that ABO was an insufficient reason.

Here's yer sign...

Let's see if all y'all will be Conservatives next time, or simply mere Republicans.

I doubt it.

It is possible that most who refused to vote for Romney are in Red states where their abstinence didn’t matter.

We now need to plan for the midterms.
