On a conference call with House Republicans a day after the partys electoral battering last week, Speaker John A. Boehner dished out some bitter medicine, and for the first time in the 112th Congress, most members took their dose.
Their party lost, badly, Mr. Boehner said, and while Republicans would still control the House and would continue to staunchly oppose tax rate increases as Congress grapples with the impending fiscal battle, they had to avoid the nasty showdowns that marked so much of the last two years.
Members on the call, subdued and dark, murmured words of support even a few who had been a thorn in the speakers side for much of this Congress.
It was a striking contrast to a similar call last year, when Mr. Boehner tried to persuade members to compromise with Democrats on a deal to extend a temporary cut in payroll taxes, only to have them loudly revolt.
With President Obama re-elected and Democrats cementing control of the Senate, Mr. Boehner will need to capitalize on the chastened faction of the House G.O.P. that wants to cut a deal to avert sudden tax increases and across-the-board spending cuts in January that could send the economy back into recession. After spending two years marooned between the will of his loud and fractious members and the Democratic Senate majority, the speaker is trying to assert control, and many members seem to be offering support.

My first thought is that everyone getting hurt is an inevitable reality resulting from the election. No one is going to escape the pain. My second thought is that we should give the voters what they want. Give them the Democrat way of doing things. ...Any means of increasing taxes will take money out of private investment, but Obama’s plan isn’t just to close a few loopholes, it is to do our investing for us through government. Obviously Americans think that Obama has proven he can invest our money better than we can. Why suffer a slow death of the economy through half measures of plundering when full on economic suicide is so easily within our grasp? Let Obama have his tax increases by any means he chooses to get them. Let government have what little money Rich people aren’t taxed, what businesses have in profit, and let government keep on coming for more and more. It’s the fair thing to do.
...The past four years certainly didn’t wake up America. They didn’t even get Republicans out of their spiteful tantrums long enough to go vote. If gasoline and energy prices aren’t enough, make them go higher. Create shortages, lines, rationing, and cripple the movement of Americans as well as the movement of the economy. Make promises about the future of green energy while using the EPA to destroy the evil oil and gas industry. It’s the American way. The possibilities are endless, and fat people need to ride bicycles.
Americans don’t know what is good for them. Let government decide. Open the borders. Have food control. Have gun control, and private property control. Damn that Sarah Palin for not running, and damn those people who dissed Ron Paul. Obama will show them.
Do you really think Obama can do all he wants to do by closing a few tax loopholes? He will need more money than there is. He already does.
Oh yeah, let’s be sure to find the perfect Republican candidate the next time. Don’t bother with primaries where he or she might get beat. Just demand the RNC install him. If we don’t get the perfect one, make Obama our King for life.
Do you really think the next Republican candidate is going to win states Romney lost? There will be four more years of Democrat fixing going on. Amnesty, citizenship anyone? ...Having a Republican Congress as a stumbling block to Democrat plans is at best an inconvenience to them, and at worse an excuse for them to consolidate executive power even sooner than they would if given an unobstructed path to their soviet dream.
Everyone gets hurt, like it or not.
Rush doesn't care whether he is telling the truth or not. It's time to stop taking cues from an entertainer who makes millions of dollars a year. If you do, you're part of the problem, not part of the solution.
I first found Rush ~ 20 years ago just after the 1992 election and was immediately attracted to his ability to be proved right over and over again when the MSM was shown wrong on the same subjects, it was uncanny. I taped and watched his TV show each night. And he was filled with optimism back too then too and there was reason to believe him.
That is why it is sad to see he become like this, being so wrong so often and spinning that into a positive.
Unfortunately the worse Republicans do the better $$$ he does, and by setting expectations so high before a crushing defeat many will see his voice as a required pain killing drug.
What scares me is how many times I hear him repeated here, like on all the polls being wroong.
But “don’t doubt him folks....don’t doubt him...he knows these people like every square inch of his naked body...etc, etc”.
After him telling us this about a “McCain victory” his credibility has been absolutely ruined in my book. Yet, he said the same EXACT thing about a Romney win and continues to make asinine predictions on a daily basis.
His auditing “stats” must be made of whole cloth because he is wrong so often that he cannot possibly be as accurate as he claims to be.
Just another rich a-hole who doesn’t give a crap about those who make him so very rich, powerful, and influential. I won’t listen to him stutter into the mic any longer and have also sworn off similarly wrong pundits like Coulter, Hannity, Ingraham, Morris, etc.
NONE of them give a damn about us or America, merely getting rich off of our misery.
I also notice he seems to take off like about 20% of the time now with guest hosts. He wasnt like this in the 1990s.
Do not approach the WH, don't even take their calls.
This "cliff" is a dainty one compared to the next one. We might as well start diving.
۞ "Since the bygone days of Ronald Reagan the present day Republican Party has taken on the appearance and all the demeanor of the corrupted liberal Democrat Party and has now become the party of appeasers, apologists, liberalism and an ever bigger government with all of the welfare largesse that emanates from it."
What a spineless weasel POS.
As much as I can’t stand the b*tch, at least Nancy Pelosi had more balls than this pantywaist coward.
Way to oppose the socialist march to oblivion there, Johnny B...just f***ing stellar.
Infuriating doesn’t begin to describe this... we will NEVER win back anything with this worthless “speaker”.
hey, hey, hey, That is copyrighted line :)
You heard that first from SOL, dozens of times.
in fairness though, only hale is authorized to determine whether boner or the wicked b!tch from the west has the nicer rack...
You see that Rush-bot calling me every (bad) name in the book? He was trying to show anger. It was pretty funny.
I told him I liked him LOL
I agree with you in principle, but-——Specter is long gone,
thank you God.
that’s all well and good, but many of us live in states that get virtually no say in who the GOP candidate is. I live in Pennsylvania. I get to vote for who the hell ever some chit for brains farmer in Iowa or someplace hands me. The whole system sucks eggs.
The presidential system does suck eggs, but there's more than just the presidency. They are all important down to county level.
“...hey, hey, hey, That is copyrighted line :)...”
Oh...Ok, then...
“Paraphrasing sickoflibs, as much as I cant stand the b*tch, at least Nancy Pelosi had more balls than this pantywaist coward...”
“...only hale is authorized to determine whether boner or the wicked b!tch from the west has the nicer rack......”
Ahh...errr...ooh...man, I just ain’t goin’ there... I just f***ing ATE, fer cryin’ out loud...
“What a spineless weasel POS.”
Perfectly stated, Hale.

What is the excuse the Left has for more votes than there are registered voters?
2008 Chaos was in the mist of an election we all knew was heavily tilted toward Obama.
Chaos was simply an attempt to stir it up, if anything it created problems in 2010.
