Earthquake!
Freerepublic freeper

Posted on 11/10/2012 9:30:48 AM PST by MHGinTN

Just had a rather strong and lengthy earthquake here in East Tennessee. The event started with a sudden shake, then a pause, then a lengthy quake of significant magnitude, I would estimate to be in the range of 3 to 4. Is this event connected to shaking in other areas? How is that mountain side in the Azores(?) which is capable of sending a massive tsunami toward the East Coast fairing? Ant word from other freepers out there?

A few weeks ago we had a shaker up in Maine, of all places.

Yeah, these do seem like weird places for earthquakes.

Maybe God really is pissed at us and He’s gearing up something truly majestic to punish us. Hmmm ... I’d better go pick up more gas for the generator!

I think it is this one:

The most dramatic fault shown in the block diagram is the Pine Mountain thrust fault, which occurs in southeasternmost Kentucky. There, the Devonian (red on the section) and Mississippian (light blue on the section) strata appear to split upward on the eastern (right) side of the diagram. Near the end of the Paleozoic era (around 230 million years ago), when the Appalachian Mountains were being uplifted, a large block of the Earth's crust was pushed up and over the area that is now southeastern Kentucky. The pressures from mountain building caused the northeast edge of a block of Devonian, Mississippian, and Pennsylvanian strata to be pushed upward, forming a 125-mile long ridge that we call Pine Mountain.

Very interesting! Thanks, I didn’t know about that one. Hmmm...maybe a return to Kentucky isn’t my best plan after all.

The unstable mountain side is in the Canary Islands, not the Azores.

Folks in eastern North Carolina are more concerned about the effects of a significant landslide off the Continental Shelf, the affect of which would leave little to no advance warning.

Have a great day...

Unless somebody installed them while we weren’t home, no.

It’s the weirdest thing.

They wouldn’t have to be installed.

TinFoilHatOn

They could be the black helicopters using ultrasonic speakers and THEY had tracked your friend’s cell phone, accidentally hit transmit when he hung up. You probably didn’t see them because they were in Whisper MODE.

(If Quix were here, he could tell you more...<;^0 )

Where I live, stuff that “doesn’t exist” flies around all the time, which is why I don’t believe in “UFOs”.

I don’t even go out and look any more.

[once though, I did wave]

You may well be right.

If you’re not pulling our legs, back up anything you actually value NOW! Set back some money, keep real good backups starting immediately, and take inventory of your OS discs or install media...any shock to the device strong enough to cause that means you’re most likely gonna be replacing hard drives Real Soon Now.

4.3?

In California, that wouldn't even stop a conversation. Well, maybe for 10 seconds.

I hope the FR site is healthy enough soon to allow for using the search function again. I miss it, but have no way of knowing if that will ever return.

I always back up everything important to an external drive (not that much is very important in the whole scheme of things), and have all program and operating system disks.

The screen I got had words like “crash dump” near the bottom. Near the top was something like “If you have never seen this screen before turn off and restart. (recommended)” I think the other option was to “restart normally”. So I did the “recommended”. Then it went through a repair process for about 15 minuntes, and at one point it asked if I wanted to go back to an earlier restoration point (recommended), so I selected that. After all the gyrations, it seems to be fine.

My little netbook, I just turned off (hard) and on again and it, too, seems to be fine.

I think it’s Bush’s fault.
