(CNSNews.com) -- Although the Republican-dominant House of Representatives controls the federal purse strings, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said that Tuesdays election victory by President Barack Obama changed how he will approach the GOP goal of repealing the health reform law, saying that the presidents reelection made it the law of the land.
Well, I think the election changes that. Its pretty clear that the president was re-elected. Obamacare is the law of the land, Boehner told ABC News Diane Sawyer in an interview Thursday when asked if the House GOP would still make repeal its mission.
However, Boehner also said that the law was still on the table, noting that he still considered it bad policy and that it was not off limits as he begins negotiations with Obama over key budgetary issues.
As House Speaker, Boehner can prevent any funding for Obamacare or any aspect of it through amendments to funding legislation, to a continuing resolution, or by simply not allowing a floor vote on the funding.
I think there are parts of the health care law that are going to be very difficult to implement and very expensive and, at a time when were trying to find a way to create a path toward a balanced budget, everything has to be on the table, he said in the ABC interview.
When pressed, Boehner clarified that no decision had been made yet over which parts of the law would be included in negotiations, saying that parts of the law could be on the table.
There are certainly maybe parts of it that we believe need to be changed we may do that, no decisions at this point, he said.
Boehner repeated during the interview that he viewed Obamas reelection and Republicans failure to achieve a Senate majority as a mandate from the American public for the two parties to work together, saying that it was simply the hand he was dealt.
I may not like the five cards that were dealt to me but those are the cards Ive got in my hand, he said. Now my job on behalf of the American people is to find a way to work with my Democrat colleagues and our Democrat President to solve Americas problems. If there was one mandate that came out of the election, it was [to] find a way to work together to address our problems.
Boehners office clarified his remarks about repeal of Obamacare on Thursday, after excerpts of the interview were released to the public. His official Twitter account posted a message saying that he remained committed to full repeal of the law.
ObamaCare is the law of the land, but it is raising costs and hurting #smallbiz. Our goal remains #fullrepeal, Boehner tweeted.
Boehner spokesman Kevin Smith also clarified the Speakers intentions on Obamacare, saying that House Republicans were committed to repealing the law despite the reelection of its namesake president.
While Obamacare is the law of the land, it is costing us jobs and threatening our health care, Smith told the liberal website Talking Points Memo. Speaker Boehner and House Republicans remain committed to repealing the law, and he said in the interview it would be on the table.
Obamas reelection has made repeal of the law extremely difficult for Republicans after they failed to secure a Senate majority and a President who would sign repeal legislation. Obama has repeatedly stated that he has no intention of negotiating over the law and Senate Democrats have refused to vote on multiple repeal bills sent to them by the House.
We don’t want a better deal. We want the American people to see how evil these marxists are so they vote them out.
Obama asking for a bailout because the Obama Plan has failed is ridiculous. He will look like a buffoon. We need to use the Alinksy tools on them because the MSM won’t do it. Barry & Harry have set the bar so low we can just shove everything right back in their faces now.
It all comes down to the GOP leadership. If they go wobbly because of K Street cash or MSM the dims will just steamroll them/us AGAIN.
***if he puts a stent into anyone over 60.***
Glad I got mine in 2006!
But didn't I hear that congress can defund it?
the Republican House cannot do a thing to change it without support from the Senate and Obama and we know that isnt going to happen. So, get off his back on this.
You don’t understand. It’s the democrats who are going to want to tinker with o-care now. No deal. If the kenyan does an EO end run so be it. He owns it. EVERY single layoff and newly part time employee has to be courtesy of the DPUSA.
I was disappointed in my fellow Americans, but we lost and being angry about an election loss is stupid. Insisting on a angry leader is equally stupid. I am personally angry at some specific Americans like the defense workers who deserve to be laid off (I will be laid off with them, but I am prepared). But I am not blinded by anger, I am logical and want to get the best deal out of bad circumstances.
You are absurd.
You may be correct about that, but is the insult to HarleyD necessary? This is FR, not DU.
“Hes right it is the law of the land, and there is nothing he or anyone else can do about it - you cant knock him for it.”
Bull$hit.
Congress controls the purse strings. Shut down the freaking government and defund this monster.
” O no, if we do that people might vote against us!”
Like they just did?
Please don't let the mainstream media convince you of what "Boehner said"...here is a direct statement from him on November 8:
Um, yeah, that’s mentioned in the article, which I posted in full.
The tweet, I mean.
NO, that’s a CYA tweet and not what he blubbered about it in a DIANE SAWYER interview. What the heck was he doing walking into that biased minefield right after the election? What a fool. Boggles the mind.
In Canada, many people have to wait up to a year to see a specialist. In the meantime, I'm sure many people croak just begging and waiting to see a doctor...
Long wait times to see a doctor will also become the 'new normal' under this monster. Extra long waits for those 60 and over and a panel to review before allowing you to see a specialist to deem if it is really necessary. Obamacare is not referred to as the 'kill Grandma' law for nothin'. Remember that this 'law' was brought to us by those whose conscience is so seared that killing an innocent unborn baby doesn't even bother them. The bottom's the limit.
Boener on the the health reform law, the presidents reelection made it the law of the land.Gee, where do we usually hear that phrase?
For Roe vs Wade.
It is NOT the law of the land in either case.
Boener will capitulate and "compromise."
Compromise to the dems means that the republicans accept the dem decisions.
Boener will not work to repeal Obamacare.
The president's relection doesn't have anything to do with it.
If Boener and the rest of the scardy cat GOP elites would have challanged dozens of close races and exposed the voter fraud (plus months ago working on stopping Soros from counting the votes would have helped), Obama wouldn't even be president.
Your logic is incomplete. Alinsky tools how?
What I mean is get down in the gutter with dims and use the populist stuff. Do you remember the pea eating face Barry had when Romney hit him with a jab about the 90 billion wasted on green energy = 2 million teachers during the debate? That was very effective.
Barry loved to talk about the auto bailouts but he was not bailing them out to help the workers. He was paying back his union campaign contributors and the Delfi employees getting screwed prove it. That was a good counterattack and we got basically nothing on it from the Romney campaign. That’s a big part of why he lost the rust belt.
Recognizing reality is not a conservative strength. Boehner is right obamacare is the law of the land. When we lost this election we lost any possibility of repealing obamacare. The House may try to fix it around the edges, but there is no way to repeal it. The SCOTUS ruled it is legal, just like the ruled slavery is legal.
If shutting down the govt would work the Pubs would do it. The Rat Senate doesn't care. The Rat President doesn't care. obama has already signaled he will "rule" by executive order and bureaucratic regulation. reid is already signaling he will change the fillibuster rules in the Senate (I suspect this is so they can get more radicals into the judiciary). This is the world we live in.
If you don't want the govt to make medical decisions for you, than you better start looking into medical tourism. If you don't have the money to take care of yourself medically you will not have any options other than just accepting what your are given.
This election guarantees our decline. The question is who will replace our empire. I don't see any other countries emerging that place a great value on individual liberty, or believe that our rights are GOD given.
The speaker position is a RINO GOP-e good-ol'-boy's club. That has to change.
I don't think the GOP is ready for good strong Conservative change yet. If ever.
I didn’t add that particular category. I know well that it’s not breaking news.
Could you repeat that, please?
