If you spend your time watching politics and havent been hiding in a deep depression since Tuesday, youve probably been hearing a lot about ORCA. According to the Washington Post, ORCA was designed as a first-of-its-kind tool to employ smartphones to mobilize voters, allowing them to microtarget which of their supporters had gone to the polls.
There is now widespread condemnation of the program as being sloppy and poorly deployed.

That’s management everywhere. Which party does the postal union donate more campaign money to?
Makes sense. Thank-you.
Why do you think Obama moved the 2010 CENSUS into the White House?
With that kind of raw data at your disposal, what could you have done? ANYONE could be elected with that data.
The last Gallup poll before the hurricane had Romney with a 5 point lead among likely voters
Why are we not taking lessons from the opposition? They WON after all.
Obama refused to use the "party consultants" and instead put together his own team that was loyal only to him.
He won. Twice. People seem to ignore that so I'm going to say it again and again until it gets through to them.
Obama WON. TWICE. There are lessons here to be learned.
Why are people ignoring this bit of obviousness and instead wanting to go back to the GOP-E for "advice" when we all know that doesn't work?
If you want to win, you have to have a number of things in place. Here they are:
- A team that is loyal to the candidate, not anyone else
- A demographic database which has every single voter in it and their voting history
- A team dedicated to contacting voters who have been identified through demographic and behavioral analysis as being receptive to the message
- A team dedicated to sifting through various methods of messaging and delivering the message in a manner the voter will accept it. Here's a hint: Direct mail-bomb to a zip code and buying air time on 60 Minutes is not enough anymore.
- A method of communicating the message to those voters (hint: not everyone watches Fox News) - A team in place to reach out to 'other groups' (Ron Paul voters, anyone?) and persuades them
- A team in place to take people to the polls and get a ballot in their hands (yes, this is still important)
- A team in place to relay information to central command so central command can keep track of the numbers so they know when to hold out and when to concede
One last thing that you require above all else -- a Project Manager who keeps track of all of this, not a campaign manager. Get a project manager on it to make sure the operational bits are all happening and reports back regularly to the candidate and the campaign manager. Both the candidate and the campaign manager have enough to do. Get a project manager on the tactical bits to make sure things are executed.
Its really not that difficult but it does require a high level of coordination and a willingness to get modern.
That's all. This is not difficult, people. But it requires one thing that the GOP doesn't have: People loyal to the CANDIDATE as opposed to loyal to either the party or their own pocketbooks. People like US for example. Not people like the Washington DC wine and cheese crowd.
Excellent point.
makes my nose feel good
We had a top postal manager once demand that all the reports (Minor ones to be sure) of a certain kind should be in his office on Monday morning.
The guys spent the weekend loading his office rather than the several 60 foot trailers ordinarily used to haul them away to our mailer.
He never did that again.
I'm pretty sure the White House wouldn't have been able to handle the the statistical research data forms for just Arlington Virginia ~ the Census is huge!
Romney certainly blew the loyalty thing. He had his stalwart 20% ~ but that doesn’t do the job.
Correct. I was going to crawl over broken glass to vote against Obama. He had me just because the alternative was known and horrible.
For whatever reason, the word "coalition" has been lost. It needs to be rediscovered.
I will say that from what I saw, the lawyers for Romney group, at least locally, did a good job considering the Orca mess. We could have used more challengers, but they don't grow on trees.
Ed Rollins. He always turns on whoever he hires. The big name consultants are adapt at one thing. CYA. They want their next job.
Most candidates like to delegate the administrative functions and follow their consultant's advice. That's all well and good, but candidates need to have good supervision of their campaigns. Not micromanage, but supervise.
I think pollsters underestimated Detroit (And similar) turnout.
Feel big now?
Glad I could help.
Yeah.
You should see my last post. It was all about Forest Gump style tripe recipes.
Please feel free to participate.
Feel good?
I know it does. Some folks can't feel good until they feel superior. So, be superior. No skin off of my nose..
Actually that is true, but honestly I wasn't even thinking of that, but rather that conservatives considered him to be the same as Obama...which is simply not true.
Will you mellow out woman. Geesh just because I had a little fun at your expense. I'm sorry!
By the way, did you ever apologize for the 900 duplicate posts?
My dear, don’t dish something out that you can’t take.
I’m supposed to mellow out because of your sense of fun?
Homey don’t play that. IOW What about my sense of fun?
