Context: Boehner weasled out last year not because of his caucus but rather b/c it was the astute political move to protect the GOP candidate for president.
Turned out unsuccessful. OK, a new day.
Boehner is now on a shorter leash with his caucus, and the dynamics are radically changed: Obama is a lame duck.
Boehner has to speak today about meeting Obama half-way. The RATS won the election and increased their majority in the Senate.
But watch what Boehner does, not what he says. I think he’ll draw a line in the sand on various fiscal issues.
In fact, I am hoping that we just opt for the sequester, let all the tax rates rise for all Americans, and allow the defense cuts as well. We need the $1.2 trillion in savings.
Someone on another thread indicated that Boehner is actually holding a pretty good set of cards. There will be no honeymoon for Obama, no mandate, and the House will be under pressure from the Senate GOP to fight, not accommodate.
McConnell now needs confrontation, not accommodation.
And Let Obama-Reid own ALL of it.
there are a pile of places to find new revenues... ie
flat tax and bring more people to the table and lower rates is a simple low hanging one.
