Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Wednesday that he will try to push through a change to Senate rules that would limit the GOPs ability to filibuster bills.
Speaking in the wake of Tuesdays election, which boosted Senate Democrats numbers slightly, Mr. Reid said he wont end filibusters altogether but that the rules need to change so that the minority party cannot use the legislative blocking tool as often.
I think that the rules have been abused and that were going to work to change them, he told reporters. Were not going to do away with the filibuster but were going to make the Senate a more meaningful place.
Republicans, who have 47 of the chambers 100 seats in this current Congress, have repeatedly used that strong minority to block parts of President Obamas agenda on everything from added stimulus spending to his judicial picks.
A filibuster takes 60 senators to overcome it.
Leaders of both parties have been reluctant to change the rules because they value it as a tool when they are in the minority.

Harry Reid has yet to pass a budget. Why do we allow these criminals to continue?
Time to take out Harry.
These rules will only be in effect until the Republicans get the majority again. Even the Democrats in the past have been careful not to do this. I suspect Reid is just trying to show he cares about his voters. Nothing will come about this because the Democrats know it will come back and haunt them.
Nope, no time at all to get on it.
Now, is the beginning of the forward half of the country is just dying to see. The change they voted for is coming. Save my spot in the bread line, thank you.
...I think that the rules have been abused and that were going to work to change them, he told reporters.
And if that doesn’t work Obama will govern by Executive Order... or Edict... Who’s going to stop him now?
Oh, I see, he’s showing how bipartisan he wants to be. You remember how Republicans always prostitute ourselves to those sacred “Independents” who simply worship bipartisanship? But apparently, Democrats, with their corrupt MSM allies, don’t seem to care about bipartisanship. Imagine that.
TOM DASCHLE
Harry and the Dems have short memories but I believe he’s dead serious on this and I’d bet it’s at the behest of Obummer.
Hey Nevada...I am continuing my boycott of your economy that started when you re-elected that MORON Reid in 2010.
McCain and Linda will think that’s a splendid compromise..
Yep, The Won will govern by any means necessary to trash the Constitution, changing the filibuster rule will go along with the EO and edict.
Only God can stop him. The electorate is too dumbed down and self-seeking to see the disaster staring them in the face.
This is what won last night..the European Utopian Society progressives and Communists have always wanted..now Reid and Obama can do whatever they want and if they dont get what they want, they can continue blaming Republicans..its working, idiots still blame Bush for our economy being in the toilet..and 4 years from now they will STILL blame Bush
Thus, what can only be described as a concerted judicial-filibuster campaign during the 108th Congress was truly unprecedented. Indeed, throughout the entire history of the U.S. Senate, neither the minority-party members in that chamber nor senators of the party that did not occupy the White House had ever before engaged in such a coordinated, protracted filibustering campaign to frequently deny up-or-down votes for one judicial nominee after another. In fact, beyond the 10 appellate-court nominees who were actively filibustered in 2003 and 2004, it should further be noted that Democrats almost certainly would have filibustered additional circuit-court nominees including Terrence Boyle, Brett Kavanaugh and Thomas Griffith had they moved from the Judiciary Committee to the floor last year.
I remember when the Repub’s were in the the majority and talked about doing this it was a lack of respect for minority rights according to the Dims. So now Harry hates minorities.
Why not just dissolve the legislature and let Dear Leader rule by fiat? We’re pretty much already there and I tire of these scoundrels and their nonsense.
