ST. LOUIS • Congressman Todd Akin has dramatically narrowed the lead of Sen. Claire McCaskill in Missouri’s nationally watched Senate race, according to a new poll.
But the poll — commissioned by the Post-Dispatch, News 4 and the Kansas City Star — also indicates that Akin’s “legitimate rape” comment in August continues to affect the race. McCaskill still enjoys a significant gender gap, and three-quarters of her supporters call Akin’s comment “somewhat” or “very” important to their decision.
The results show McCaskill leading with 45 percentage points to Akin’s 43 points among likely voters. That’s within the poll’s 4-point margin for error, indicating a closer race than two earlier independent polls that showed McCaskill with wider leads.
Brad Coker, of Mason-Dixon Polling & Research, Inc., of Washington, D.C., said the battle over economic issues between President Barack Obama and GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney could have helped tighten Missouri’s Senate race.

She is only at 45% not good
The trouble with shooting yourself in the foot, it tends to reduce your reaction times and ability to effectively counter the additional charges that are laid out against you. No question, Claire McCaskill is one of the least effective Senators, in terms of what she accomplishes for the people of Missouri, than most anyboby who has ever held that office, and she acts only at the bidding of a cartel that actively supports and enables the sovietization of America.
Said before and say it again, you can’t beat the incumbent with somebody who stumbles early in the game, and cannot regain momentum. And stirring up gender fears is a BIG stumble.
No matter how bad the incumbent may be.
But what the heck, maybe the people of Misouri will look deep in their souls, and ask themselves, honestly, which is the greater evil, and are they prepared to support the lesser evil?
Let’s hope that the Missouri electorate realizes what is at stake in this race and don’t fall for Clarabelle’s baloney ads which are bombarding the airwaves.
I suspect that the polls are skewed and that people who would otherwise vote for Akin might be reticent to tell a pollster their true intentions.
I’m going out on a limb. Akin 52/48.
Romney will carry the state 54/46.
The difference is in the 2% who actually give a damn about Akin’s early statement.
The big difference is the number of people who will crawl across a mile of broken glass to vote out Obama.

I’m with you. WMR leads in the state in polls by 10-14% More than enough to carry Aiken over the line.
In addition, with a lead like that in MO I don’t see how WMR loses this election.
Doesn’t this mean that Akin will win 53-45?
Any incumbent polling under 50% is in trouble.
If Todd can’t win on his own, I truely believe he will win on Mitt’s long coattails.

Me too. I voted early, but wish I had not so I could go stand in line again. It was a wonderful pleasure voting against Barack Obama and for Mitt Romney.
Everytime I go to bing to search for Todd Akin..a slew of anti Akin sites pop up. McCaskill has bought search tools?

As a person who lives in Central Missouri (rural area), I can say that Akin signs outnumber McCaskill by 10:1.
Also, in my whole town I have only seen two Obama signs so far, one hanging on the window of the Democratic HQ. There are many more R/R signs, including the one I placed right outside my office which is on a busy street.

Kevin McDermott, the “journalist” who wrote the Post Dispatch article is reporting old news. That poll was taken Oct 23 - 25, before Akin’s campaign acquired $800,000 PAC money. I’d like to see a more recent poll because I believe Akin’s moving up.
I’ve been making calls, reminding voters to vote Tuesday for Romney and Akin. One fellow said he was voting for Romney but not Akin. Said he didn’t agree with Akin on some things. I said, “Sorry to hear that, because we really need to win the Senate and take our country back. Then you’re voting for McCaskill?” “Well, uh no”, he said, “I guess I’ll be voting for Akin.”

There has been talk of protesting outside the Post Dispatch because of its biased coverage of the Akin/McCaskill election. Some are urging subscribers to cancel their subscriptions, which would seriously damage their already diminishing circulation.
I was at a call center this past thursday night. They told me there that internal polling had Romney plus 15%.
I’d crawl alot farther...seriously.
2 votes for Mitt and Todd Akin right here...me and the Mr...we’ll be at the door when the polls open.
I’d pondered sitting outside the polling place blasting Hank William’s Jr song, “We Don’t Apologize For America,” for an hour before I went in, and beeping my horn after the part where he tells Obama to go back to Chicago.
But, I am just gonna vote instead.
