Intelligence officials have disclosed a new detailed timeline of the attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, acknowledging the CIA played a greater role in responding to the attack than has previously been disclosed. Â A senior U.S. intelligence official also insisted that the CIA security team that initially responded to the attack was not given orders âto stand down in providing support,â as had been suggested in media reports.

For the amount of time available, they could’ve inserted by means of a Cessna 172 from Europe and still have been home for breakfast.

‘Prevent defense’ and she’s one LARGE blocker.
Such is their legitimate charter, but since the mid 80's it became a clandestine military force. To get around the constraints of that charter, they trained foreign militias as force multipliers in larger campaigns. Oops, sorry, forgot to respond to this one.
Yes, the CIA is involved in a lot of military actions, mostly training and assembling other forces, but they certainly are not up to a show of force on their own and do rely on the military to continue with things they have set up, to do the heavy lifting in a conflict, or for a quick show of force.
In one of those unguarded first interviews, one of the rescuers (presumably CIA) who evacuated the 30+ people said that they had no idea there were that many people trapped and that they had only one car and had to get other vehicles before they could get all the people out of there. So clearly they weren’t prepared for this - why, I don’t know - and the resources actually weren’t available to them.
There is no earthly reason to blame the CIA for not having been able to respond adequately, except that Obama has decided it’s the turn of Petraeus to go under the bus. Will he? Probably, but we shall see.
