I've been following Dave Wasserman of Cook Political Report on Twitter. He has been updating the tallies of the early vote in Virginia, and what he is finding is more and more bad news for Obama:
VIRGINIA EARLY VOTE: Today's new 10/31 numbers even more troubling for Obama. His best counties way off '08 pace
VIRGINIA EARLY VOTE: Turnout down 13.6% in Obama '08 localities, vs. just 1.1% in McCain '08 (statewide down 9.2%)
VIRGINIA EARLY VOTE 10/31: 185,489 ballots cast in Obama localities (214,783 by this pt. in '08), 115,908 in McCain (117,224 in '08)
VIRGINIA EARLY VOTE: Even more worrisome for O...in Kerry '04 localities (hardcore D places), turnout -18.1% vs. '08 (only -1.7% in Bush)
VIRGINIA EARLY VOTE: Obama strongholds Arlington -20.0%, Fairfax - 20.9%, Richmond -13.7% (vs. just -9.2% statewide). Hmm..
I actually saw evidence of a groundgame a month or so ago when someone stopped by. I’m in tidewater as well. Could’ve knocked me over with a feather. The gop just doesn’t “do” ground game in VA. It would exhibit, well, competence. And that’s something the VA gop has been short on for many years.
To their credit, though, they had a shakeup of the state party last year and have been doing some remarkably smart things. For example, there will be no gop primary for statewide offices next year: they’re doing caucuses.
(SHHHHHH!....they’re Paulistas and very good at what they do. But that doesn’t fit with the meme that Paulistas are the devil incarnate.)
If you’re from tidewater did you make it to the Romney Rally last night? My wife and I went and it was pretty amazing. Only a day and half notice and the place was pretty well packed. To say that there was lots of enthusiasm would be an understatement of epic proportions!
Which book is that?
Nope. Hadn’t heard about it. And I wouldn’t have gone in any case: I’m not a Romney supporter. I’ll give him the benefit of the the doubt for about 5 minutes on Nov 6th, but that’s about as far as I go for now.
If he wins, I’ll wait and see. Who knows? Maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Yep, we certainly do. Took over 3 hours in line to vote in Woodbridge. Had a minor issue with my “new” address (moved in March), but was quickly resolved.
