JC was a horrible President, but the rescue attempt, even though it failed, is one thing I’ll give him credit for.
The military asked for 12 helicopters to rescue the Iranian hostages. Jimmy Carter, always the micromanager, agreed to the mission, but would approve only 8 helicopters. Three helicopters had trouble along the way, and the military had already told Carter they needed a minimum of 6 to make it to the destination. Hence the remaining 5 were recalled. This could easily have cost all the hostages their lives. So I give Carter very little credit.
