Even before the storm hit America's East Coast, President Barack Obama wanted to show that he's ready, that he can lead the country through this crisis. It was exactly eight days before the presidential election on Nov. 6.
Obama is doing what Americans expect from a president when a massive storm like Sandy comes along: He is demonstratively setting politics aside and acting as the top catastrophe prevention official. When a reporter then asked him, "What about the impact on the election, sir?", the president answered soberly, unselfishly and energetically. "The election will take care of itself next week," he said. "Right now, our number-one priority is to make sure that we are saving lives ."
His handling of the storm could determine the outcome of the election. "The hurricane will pose a huge test for Obama in the next few days, one that will make the debate in Denver look like child's play," writes Julian Zelizer, professor of history and public affairs at Princeton University, for US broadcaster CNN. Obama lost to Republican candidate Mitt Romney in Denver, giving his rival an unexpected boost in the campaign.

Uh, not possible, you gullible fool.
A German reporter for a Left-wing German paper. For the most part, these people are clueless.
What's wrong with this picture?
No way.... he went to Florida for the photo op and news time reporting him COMING back to DC being the “dutiful president”.... otherwise, if he never leaves DC, there’s no OP....just think of the drama of Air Force 1 landing in that dramatic weather. Obama and company plot every single move.
I guess Obama thought he could do without these four (4) votes (whose ballots were probably not going to be honored anyway).
I hope he founders on the shoals of Benghazi for breaking faith.
That’s precisely what I was thinking. I thought he was supposed to be a “great leader” already. If after 4 years as President he needs an “example of leadership”...well, that’s pretty sad and should end the discussion of being reelected.
How much you want to bet that the news over the next few days will be a rematch on Bush/Katrina and Obama/Sandy?
“...moment of what...” ?
Linky Thing: FEMA / WH Send Storm Victims to the Internet
the idiots are telling victims (millions of whom are without power) to get their relief information from the internet.
Incompetent IDIOTS!
Obama’s advantage is he isn’t dealing with Gov. Blanca or Mayor of NOLA.
That’ll certainly disrupt der Spiegel’s left-wing narrative. Wonder how many more whoopsies are coming down the pike now?
“the president answered soberly, unselfishly and energetically.”
Truly we are not worthy . . .
It won’t change the outcome of the election, it’s not like Obama wasn’t going to win New York, and most states affected were blue anyway, IMO.
But as far as pass/fail on handling...native Floridian, here, 60 years in this state and seen lots of storms. In the minds of those inconvenience or who have experienced disruption of their lives, nobody (no agency, no mayor, no President, no disaster relief organization) ever does enough, within an acceptable time frame, as far as the people that have experienced loss goes.
It quickly descends into a “You can please some of the people, some of the time...etc.” scenario. Those with power restored are happy, those waiting are not.
In a large natural disaster, there are always folks who are dissatisfied...give them a day or two without power, and with empty grocery aisles, or trying to find water or gas, and it will be like every other hurricane or natural disaster of any magnitude, people will start to grumble.
And with New Yorkers, I imagine they’re probably more impatient than Southern states or Midwest states when they get hit with power outages and disruption of normal living necessities. Partly because those Midwest and Southern states are used to hurricanes and tornadoes... New York did recover from 9/11...but the area affected was much smaller. In that densely populated area, getting things back to normal is going to be a monumental task.
Just my 2 cents.
Why didn’t he just stop the ocean’s waters from rising, like he said he would? I guess it’s just another broken promise from him.
You do not prepare a country for natural disasters by spending money on bankrupt green energy companies. In fact, you make the country more in debt and less able to handle an emergency situation. Which may explain why 5 Nuclear Power Plants have reported problems over the weekend due to Sandy.
Where is he, BTW? I’ve seen Romney gathering emergency supplies in Ohio...but no Barry...
German dude! He’s not running for President of Germany!
