Good to hear you’re hanging in there and your power was restored. That’s impressive and I’m sure you were surprised as well.

I think we will get a better assessment of the damage in the morning.

Silly cowboy, you didn't need to ping me. You have been focused on spanking the children on this thread. We are fine here. Nothing much to speak of except things look a bit wet. It is possible that we will get a flood when all the rain that will fall north of us comes down the Ohio.

We are pretty safe behind the flood walls. It would take a 200 year flood to get around them. The wall gates have only been put up one time during the 20 years we have lived here. Our home is just across the street from the flood wall. Can't even see the river because of it.

We were out most of the day visiting a member of my congregation who was in an explosion and is in the burn unit in Huntington. Awful thing that happened to him. Mysterious accident on the job. We may never know what happened. Right now we are praying that he makes it. We never know what the next second will bring. Good reason to stay in a good relationship with the Big Straw Boss.

Thanks for your concern.

God bless.

Thank God, some good news in some (actually many) places. I’m afraid the bad will more than make up for it, though.

I don’t think this will be nearly as bad as New Orleans post-Katrina (at least, I pray it won’t).

Imagine dropping your iPhone in a pool of muddy water. That's a poor analogy to what's occurring to New York city right now.

The entire place is an intricate technological marvel. Immerse it in salt water, especially with its thousands of miles of aging underground services, and you're talking the likely destruction of something that will take years and many billions of dollars to repair.

The people of New York are going to be hard pressed to maintain anything approaching a normal operating basis under those conditions, and the fact that New York is a central hub to the rest of the US economy, and....well, the repercussions are potentially mind blowing.

Do you actually think that you are funny?

I saw that too, but decided to give him a mulligan. There's been enough internal strife on this thread already.

Thanks.

OBAMA'S KATRINA !

And we need to hold him to the same standard that his leftwing media held Bush to. Give him a taste of his own medicine.

That said, this is going to be known as an enormously devastating storm for years to come. My heart goes out to those that have experienced losses, especially loss of a loved one.

Dear Lord, take the folks in the NE through the storms after the storm. Strength, courage, assurance and provision. Thank you in Jesus’ name.

I hope and pray your loved ones and property haven't been harmed by Sandy...

We're good in Texas, Meg. Hope everything's alright with your house when you get back.

Might be bit off topic but what are the overnight temps out there & what’s the power/heating situation? I’m thinking wind chill could be factor...

No, that's not OT, that's a very good question. Looks like tonight is not a big problem on temps (60 deg. F low predicted, though actual temp is 53 deg. F) but tomorrow night it gets down to 46 deg. F with showers likely and still some wind. I'd think the power / heating situation would be poor in some places. Definitely time to bundle up, even indoors, in that case.

7 day forecast for NYC here:

Are you going to start a live thread for the looting? As soon as daylight breaks and the gang bangers can get their butts out of bed. I bet the first reports hit 15 minutes after day break

No, I won't be starting any thread at 4:00AM Texas time, but I expect what you say is true. You can bet the NYPD is gearing up for the inevitable looting epidemic, as we speak.

I think we'll also see how well armed New Yorkers are now, despite mayor Bloomingidiot's suppression on the 2nd Amendment.

Many FReepers like to wish the worst on NYers thinking they are all libs and deserve it. I have seen worse threads...we are used to it.

They do the same thing with Californians failing to take into consideration that Jim and John are the owners of Free Republic and are in California.

Never understood that stupidity.

BTW, I do NOT mean to leave out the more rural areas and others along the coastline who ARE getting whacked. I’m sure there are going to be a lot of people in serious distress, and their problems will be complicated by the enormity of what’s happening in the NYC and surrounding area, as there just aren’t enough resources to cope / help everyone.

Good to hear all's ok with you and yours. Sorry to hear about your fellow church member. My thoughts for his recovery.

You watch that flood wall, alright? Be good.
