Sadly, what once were shovel ready jobs are now bucket ready jobs.
Thanks...I cant believe that people are still walking around outside my window. Like what bar could possibly be open?

Peeps are sooo strange, aren’t they? Like the ones who were surfing, today in the storm surge.
Go figure. :/
You meant, bit him on a big boil
Well, looking at the flood area, now I know why they call it "Lower Manhattan".
It’s been like that all night...walking dogs, carrying pizzas, laughing and running through the streets. Go figure is right.
Spot on IMO
...Next public advisory to be issued by the Hydrometeorological
Prediction Center...at 5:00AM ET.
Same here, about the assistance. (S. IL & W. KY.) News reports today showed utility crews here organizing to go to the NE if needed. Looks like the if has been erased. :-(
Crews from all over the country showed up here after our big ice storm in 2009, followed by a “once in a lifetime” derecho in the spring. An accident while working on line repairs killed one utility crew member and injured another. We remember, gratefully, very well...
Temp agencies here are hiring & training workers to fill in at temporary call centers for insurance companies, since many centers in the NE will be down for who knows how long. I imagine a lot of that sort of thing is happening. Good ‘ol capitalism lends a hand.
Understood. I don't think I'm wasting my time, though. Thousands upon thousands of people read this website, each and every day, and if I can dead-agent a joker-degrader like GeronL, then in my opinion, I'm doing my small part in a much bigger and most worthy cause.
Backup generators at NYU Hospital have failed. Evacuation underway.
Yes, and other hospitals as well...very scary.
Also check out the "Hurricane Sandy Will Not Land in the US (10-23-12)" thread which is now locked. I discovered he was a jerk last night on that thread.
He's not the only one who thought it was over-hyped...or not going to hit the US at all. Matter of fact, I was still having a debate with a troll late this morning about the fact Sandy had made the turn (contrary to their forecast). He was saying it hadn't and wouldn't. Even put out a map showing it missing the US.
And I know one poster "marked" my forecast on that thread. Feel free to verify it.
Oh no, prayers for those patients and familites. I can only imagine having a loved one there receiving treatment and then having to evacuate.
People who go out surfing in this mess should be sent to a nut house.
Thank you.
People are going to be dying in those hospitals because of this.
I was just recently hospitalized for 2 weeks with a MRSA infection and while I wasn’t in nearly the bad shape that I saw many other patients in, it DID occur to me what would happen if the power went out and I could not get something as simple as the IV drip with the anti-biotics.
Reading about hospitals without power and the report of the fire in another one, and that only in NYC, they will be going through hell.
How someone can downplay the tragedy and toll in human lives is beyond me.
In all honestly, I have precious little sympathy for people who pay the consequences for outright, blatant stupidity, but this is something else altogether. This is beyond any human doing and there is and was virtually no way to adequately prepare for it. There simply was not enough time or resources. People are suffering and dying through no fault of their own, simply a matter of being in the wrong place, or wrong situation at the wrong time.
We were fortunate. My daughter flew through JFK last night and happened to be on one of the few flights that was not canceled and managed to get home. For that I am extremely grateful. However, many others are not so fortunate and I truly feel sorry for them. I would not want to be in their place, and it was through no doing of mine that I was not.
Instead of blowing it off, as some people have been doing, we need to think, “There but for the grace of God, go I” and pray for those poor souls who have to endure this situation.
We are getting a good, steady, soaking rain right now, but it is still otherwise a beautiful night, mild and almost no wind. I would not have a clue what was coming or going on around me without the media.
Holy Crap! Thats like what the Terminator came walking out of!
I mean there was some major gigwatts going on there.
As I said...I discovered this last night. On his wall he says he was booted off two other forums for his views. I suspect he was an abrasive jerk over there as well and THAT is what got him booted...truth be told.
