Benghazi terrorist attack follows Obama on the campaign trail

........................................Now, the episode has taken another turn as more information emerges about what actually happened in Benghazi over the seven hours of the attack – and what US military assets might have been available to protect or perhaps rescue the American diplomatic personnel under fire.

On Sunday, the Associated Press carried a long report from Tripoli suggesting that a planned attack likely was only incidentally connected to the crude YouTube video about the Prophet Mohammad that sparked protests across the Middle East and North Africa.

Neighbors of the US consulate in Benghazi “all described the militants setting up checkpoints around the compound at about 8 p.m. The State Department’s timeline says the attack itself began at around 9:40 p.m.,” according to the AP report.

“Khaled al-Haddar, a lawyer who passed by the scene as he headed to his nearby home, said he saw the fighters gathering a few youths from among passers-by and urged them to chant against the film,” the report continues.

"I am certain they had planned to do something like this,I don’t know if it was hours or days, but it was definitely planned," said al-Haddar. "From the way they set up the checkpoints and gathered people, it was very professional."

The guard told the AP he saw no protesters, instead hearing a few shouts of "God is great," then a barrage of automatic weapons fire and rocket-propelled grenades, along with barrages from heavy machine guns mounted on trucks.

Earlier, Fox News reported that security officers working for the CIA in Benghazi heard the attack on the consulate but were twice told to wait before rushing to the compound. Fox also reported that U.S. officials refused when the security team asked for U.S. warplanes to bomb their attackers, which would have meant violating Libyan airspace.

CIA and Pentagon officials strongly deny the allegations.

I happen to agree with you for what it's worth. It would appear that our president was the person that gave the Stand Down Order. And for that he gets the White Feather award. If the Press turns up the heat someone will tell all.

Isn’t it odd that the attackers sought to use the same obsure film as cover as did our government. One might think they were in collusion.

I have doubts about al-Haddar's version. I have not done an extensive search, but the video excuse seemed to 'evolve' [Team Obama and MSM sure do like that word] in this manner:

In her remarks at the State Department on Wednesday, September 12, one day after the Benghazi attack, Hillary Clinton mentioned "inflammatory material posted on the Internet."

That statement may have given the WH an idea: Task some aides and underlings with Googling the Internet for inflammatory material. Someone found an obscure anti-Islam video. They 'evolved' the narrative to make the video the culprit.

By Thursday, September 13, Clinton was saying there is "no justification — none at all — for responding to this video with violence. We condemn the violence that has resulted, in the strongest terms."

And thus was born the video excuse.

An embassy is attacked in one of the most active parts of the world in terms of instability and budding terrorist cells, the White House Situation Room is emailed about the attacks and has access to live feeds from Benghazi including, likely, video feed from the embassy, CIA annex and predator drones, and we’re supposed to believe that the President wasn’t aware of what was going on and wasn’t fully briefed? An attack on an Embassy is an attack on US sovereign territory, a situation that would be given the highest priority in the entire administration. The entire security apparatus (CIA, Defence, State Department) would be running everything up the flagpole to the White House. It is unfathomable that Obama wouldn’t have convened an immediate meeting with Clinton, Panetta, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and others like Petreaus so that he would be fully briefed on the situation on the ground and options for response. Either he is the most derelict President in the history of the Republic or he deliberately chose not to have American forces intervene to rescue the people in Benghazi. Choose your poison. Either reality disqualifies him from continuing as President.
