I knew a contractor in the Long Beach Island area that either told me or showed me many examples of substandard construction. It doesn’t do any good to put the house on piles to avoid the storm surge when the piling diameter isn’t sufficient.

Obama might try, I suppose. But Sandy isn’t that bad and when polls start showing that Romney rules inland, it will get old in a hurry.

Can’t imagine this being worse than the derecho we had this past summer, but we will see. I’m prepared this time and glad it’s not 100 degrees out like it was when we lost power for days.

If the winds are under 75mph, its not a hurricane
It needs to be labeled a Massive Blizzard

Cousins reported desertion at the Shore (Jersey). They were there to batten and get out.
Can I ask: were the dogs acting weird?

Cat is for wind speed. This storm is not about wind speed. Look at the other elements.

All kinds of people died a little below us. We were **just** high enough not to flood. Still had all kinds of tree damage and no power, of course, for months.

I haven’t heard yet what is drawing the storm into the big left turn. That map says it was still moving NE at 11pm. If it crosses east over the 70W longitude line tonight. . .could there be a new track then.

At least we can be comforted in knowing that N0bama is monitoring the situation.
Monitoring? Seriously? He's not monitoring.
He's bowing to the storm.

Pfffft, I eat category one hurricanes for breakfast. Surfing in Category 5 winds is my idea of a mellow time. When I do pushups, Im actually pushing the Earth down.
Chuck Norris, you keep out of this.

My cousin in Virginia survived that derecho. She emailed me this evening. She and her husband have already left town and traveled inland. I just hope they don't run into the big snowstorm expected to hit parts of PA, WV and MD.

Nothing out of the ordinary. Not yet anyway.
