Hurricane Sandy From Space
NASA
Just in case you thought the Hurricane hype couldn't get any louder, check out this dispatch from Weather Channel meterologist Stu Ostro:
- History is being written as an extreme weather event continues to unfold, one which will occupy a place in the annals of weather history as one of the most extraordinary to have affected the United States.
- REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE OFFICIAL DESIGNATION IS NOW OR AT/AFTER LANDFALL -- HURRICANE (INCLUDING IF "ONLY" A CATEGORY ONE), TROPICAL STORM, POST-TROPICAL, EXTRATROPICAL, WHATEVER -- OR WHAT TYPE OF WARNINGS ARE ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AND NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER -- PEOPLE IN THE PATH OF THIS STORM NEED TO HEED THE THREAT IT POSES WITH UTMOST URGENCY...
- With Sandy having already brought severe impacts to the Caribbean Islands and a portion of the Bahamas, and severe erosion to some beaches on the east coast of Florida, it is now poised to strike the northeast United States with a combination of track, size, structure and strength that is unprecedented in the known historical record there...
- A meteorologically mind-boggling combination of ingredients is coming together:

>>Latest map shows storm is moving slowly back northeast, off the coast.
Accuweather seems to have been pretty wrong. Storm has turned towards NJ, surge is already measured in the feet here in CT. Seeing a live view of the pier in New London CT, the ferry parking lot is flooded already.
NOAA storm track seems to be pretty spot-on, I am hopeful they missed the damage estimates by a lot, but coastal flooding is going to be pretty bad.
just to remind you about how tiny Katrina was to Sandy ~ which is well into it’s second day here ~ http://teacher.scholastic.com/scholasticnews/indepth/hurricanekatrina/articles/images/path.jpg
Well, I don’t see much green. There is some blue in the fringing around explosions themselves, but not in the explosions as they decay. There’s no evidence of lightning that I can see, although it might have earlier initiated the (multiple) explosions. I’ve seen other vids of what were definitely transformers blowing up, with no green (and some with). So, I don’t know. Maybe it’s a limitation of the CCD’s in the video cams? Or my eyes. :-)
Have you watched the vid?
Note: It’s up to over 5.5 million views already. Sheesh.
