Did you live, or even visit the South, during those times?
I bet you didn’t. You are a continent, even a world, away from the South. Please don’t comment on something you know nothing about.
“Then in 1972, Nixon grabbed almost everything including the south.”
Yes, by hook or crook he wasn’t going to let Chicago defeat him, again.
However, do not diminish his opposition. McGovern was as far left as Obama, but he was honest about it.
“In 76, Carter got it.”
He sure did, because any Republican would have lost because of Watergate, and the media.
Even Reagan.
That same media who should be reporting on Benghazigate right now.
“Nixon didnt take the South forever for the Republicans.”
I’m a Southerner, and I didn’t like Nixon. However, when paired against McGovern...RIP...Nixon was sunshine and rainbows.
“I was wrong. I believe we took it after Carter until Clinton in 92”
Only because...”Read my lips...no new taxes”. Another RINO squish.
Frankly, I’m surprised, and disappointed, in your comments. I don’t say that lightly because I’ve always liked and respected you.
You should study history. I have the advantage on you because I lived it.

To tell the truth, I'm not certain why you're so fired up here. I stated something to the effect that Nixon took the solid south for the first time, and that it remained in our camp after that. Noting that I was somewhat wrong, I came back to address it.
In 76, Carter got it.

I agree. So what you are addressing here is the fact that Carter was somewhat of an anomaly. Coming down the backside of a Nixon scandal and Ford's perceived taint, gave Carter the election. Carter didn't win on ideology a straight match-up with Conservatism. In effect the South was still with us. It sided with Carter against a perceived Nixon protege. It was my premise that the South had changed forever. Ideologically that was true, but electorally it wasn't. I had to address that.
BTW: I think you may have read way too much into my comment that Carter did win in '76. I know why he won, but the fact is he still won. Having made the point that Nixon took the South and it remained that way, required me to come back and address the Carter issue. I merely pointed out that the South didn't stay in the Republican camp electorally. I wasn't attempting to make the case that the South had bought into the Democrat dogma once again. I was merely addressing Carter in the context of Nixon winning the South for us and that lasting through future elections. I was wrong with regard to that, but not with the idea that Nixon had broken the south open for Conservatives.
That's all I was trying to say. I didn't want to make another long post, so I kept it brief.

I can understand that. I happened to like Nixon. He was absolutely despised by the media. I didn't buy into it, because I saw the media as anti-U.S. even in those days.
I was wrong. I believe we took it after Carter until Clinton in 92

I believe you read a lot into my comments, that wasn't actually there.
If you still have an issue with my comments, please explain why.

(You know, if Obama wins he's going to inherit a terrible situation.)
