So according to President Obama, the private sector has never made investments in education and basic research. This is the view of a man with a DNA-level hostility to the private sector. It is also one of the most brazenly stupid and dishonest statements ever uttered at a Presidential debate. From the Carnegie Foundation and thousands of other foundations that sprang from the private sector that have funded all sorts of education projects and basic research, to Apple and General Foods and thousands upon thousands of other private sector companies that have done the same thing, the evidence against President Obama's statement would be thicker than the ObamaCare law. Staggering that anybody could vote for this guy.

Let’s keep funneling money into higher tuition at Universities with billions of dollars of endowment funds and in public school systems where the teachers are submitting falsified test scores.

Obama supports a corruption culture of academia with YOUR tax dollars.

No, President Zero, the private sector doesn’t WASTE capital on destined-to-fail investments like Green Energy. If there’s money to be made, like let’s say with computers or that newfangled Internets, companies will pour R&D in.

It’s called capitalism, Obama, look it up.

I am sure it was all government grants that developed the technology that fuels the current oil boom which has, among other things, catapulted North Dakota to second among oil producing states.

Oh, yeah, righty right right.

/s, as if I needed to tellya.

(Sheesh!)

There are plenty of private companies involved in education and research. Mayo Foundation, Scripps Research Institute, Smith-Kettlewell Institute, Battel Foundation... I could go on all night.

This is jaw-dropping, staggeringly stupid beyond belief. Beyond the foundations and programs you named every single one of us taxpayers working in the private sector makes an ‘’investment in education’’ every time we pay local, state and federal taxes that in part go to school construction, teachers salaries etc.

obama’s a Marxist and sees the world through that ideology. Of course, he has a reflexive hatred of the private sector.

Obama is full of deceit. An example of great American tradition is the contest between Samuel Langley and the Wright Brothers.

Langley a product of high class snot nose education (Boston Latin School and Harvard University) tried to pioneer in aviation. He got $70,000 grants from the government for his research. Meanwhile the Wright Brothers were working on their own dime. I always love the PBS broadcasts that show Langley's bold attempts to launch a plane off a catapult in the Potomac River and watch it crash and sink like a rock. Meanwhile, the Wright Brothers using good old fashion American pragmatism with no help from the government got to fly. If you were born in Kenya, you probably wouldn't know this history. For those unfamiliar with Langley, here is a link.

The public sector should withhold all contributions for one week, just to show what happens to all sorts of businesses and organizations.

Many or most of our universities were started by religious organizations. States came late to the game (but good for them) and set up land grant and other state universities

“....which is not something that the private sector is doing at a sufficient pace right now and has never done....”

Man might want to pick up a history book for starters.

Obama's 'right'. Who again was the gubmint bureaucrat: As to education, one could tell when a town in the Old West became civilized when it built two things -- and all by themselves no less: A Church, and a School. And nobody from DC did one tiny thing to help. It was all done by We The People.

Oh ... wait ....??? I guess Obama is not right after all.
