It was obvious to me, and to all ConservativeKind, that Romney was an East Coast RINO, the sort of politician who we detest almost more than an "honest" liberal Democrat.
We were off-put by his Massachussettes record, we were enraged at his selection, and we vowed to fight him right up to the very second he was named the Republican candidate.
Yet, a few things happened recently that call into question our assumption:
- The Debate. Sure Romney shined. Yes, Obama sulked. The contrast in performance was wonderful to behold. But this is not enough for conservatives: A skilled RINO is as deadly to our cause as an incompetent Marxist. No, the critical takeaway from this debate, for me, was the not-insignificant mention of the 10th Amendment! Perhaps I am wrong about this, but in my adult lifetime, I do not believe I have ever heard any Democrat or Republican candidate mention this all-important limitation of the Federal Behemoth.
- In the very same debate, Romney repeatedly observed that the private sector manages the economy much better than central planning at the Federal level. Any student of history surely recognises this, but Obama seems to be only a student of his own "magnificent self". This core belief tells me we are dealing with a Capitalist, and this checks off another box for those of us who value conservatism.
- Again, at the debate: Romney, when finished, hugged his many children. This is small, but significant, since I observed Obama hug only his wife and his aides. Family values WIN.
- An interview by the NRA of Romney shows a much different Romney than has been portrayed by our conservative brethren. Yes, of course, Romney will be a little more compliant to the views of the NRA when in front of them, yet his going on record will make it more difficult to flip flop -- and remember, a first term means he needs to live to his word to garner support for a second.
- I have heard, from the rumor mill, that Romney's closest aides say he is much more conservative than his record in Massachussettes shows, and that he actually has to tamp his beliefs down a bit to connect with the fuzzy middle of America, the all-important Independent. Hearsay? Absolutely. Yet this is a tiny wisp of smoke that may indicate a hidden fire.
In Massachussettes, Romney had to play ball with liberals to get anything done at all. In his own words:
In Miami, Romney said he reached out to Democrats to make deals -- most notably, the state health care plan, which he did not explicitly mention during Wednesdays event.
"My legislature was 85 percent Democrat," he said. "It did not take a rocket scientist to realize I had to work with people across the aisle. I didnt attack the senate president, I didnt attack the speaker of the house, I had to work with them. I hope we have a Republican House and a Republican Senate and I get elected as president. But I will not ignore people across the aisle."
Color me skeptical about working with the enemy should we capture the House and Senate, but okay. I can see this in a man of honor.
So: Could it be? Could our wildest fantasies be realized? Could we have accidentally stumbled into a candidate that we fought tooth-and-nail, who is actually a conservative, or close to one?
It's worth gambling on. I have changed my vote from third party to Mitt Romney.

Polygamy is on it's way back, among other ways that the Mormon cult can assert total control over Utah. Polygamy is coming back?
Ugh! That means multiple mothers-in-law.
Let's stick with monotony.

The days of staying home are over. We need to create a deep farm system, filled with people that can run for congressional seats if they open quickly. Those people need to reflect our values or get shown the door in a primary. We need work at this as if it were a part job, stay informed, stay engaged, encourage people to do the same at social events, BBQs and county fairs. Our job to to elect a guy that will replace Obama and make sure he doesn’t have to compromise or reach across the aisle because it won’t be necessary. The rancid stink of stateism needs to be blown away and replaced with freedom and self reliance.

Romney, when finished, hugged his many children. This is smallNO, Laz. That is HUGE.
THAT alone changes EVERYTHING.
I saw the demeanor of the 2 wives predebate. And I knew Romney was going to SMOKE o's butt.
obama surrounds hisself with trash. Romney surrounds himself with love.

Sorry Laz. That is entirely speculation on your part. He is what he’s done. He is a shapeshifter, whose core is his desire to attain power.

I want to believe but, since my vote doesn’t matter in CA I don’t intend on pulling the lever for him, just as my little FU to GOPe, RNC Reince and a bunch of other Aholes.
CA is polling 24% over for Obama but, I hear differently the day before I might be convinced to pull for him but, I don’t see how.
There are way to many moochers.
Hell, the Moocher State wouldn’t even submit their unemployment numbers in time to correctly record and accurate count of national unemployment.
Significant? Well, the numbers are vastly different by then fold than Delaware and I don’t believe for a minute it was accidentally in any way.
Back to Romney, these have to school Barry and Joe and educate in a the starkest and clearest manner what the alternative looks like.

I’m glad you’re changing your vote Laz, every vote counts.
I too have come to like Romney a lot more through this campaign. I now see him as a very smart, very hardworking man who also strives to be a good person.
I did not like him so well before, but I did not know enough about him to have serious policy problems with him.
I suppose that some of those policy problems remain, but as a person I now see him as an OK guy, not a fake “ken doll” type person as I saw him before.
And his wife is wonderful and he adores her and that counts for a lot, an awful lot actually.
I’ve also come to the strong conclusion that regardless of any policy disagreements I would have with him, Romney is indeed uniquely qualified to turn our economy around. Fixing failing enterprises is his stock in trade and he has been successful at it.
And besides, he passes the “not Obama” test, and that’s always been enough.

Rumor has it that Jay Sekulow would be on Mitt Romney's team of selecting Supreme Court justices.... if Jay Sekulow is on it then I am ok with that.
No matter, once Mitt Romney is deemed the winner coming Nov 6-7 the stock markets and financial markets will respond positively....

You say, “I want to believe.” I guess it's easy to believe a man sized Etch-A-Sketch who tells you he is a “severe” conservative, unless you believe his track record and his own recent words about homos, etc.. He isn't close to being conservative, but he's not Hussein so I understand your vote.
