I’ll leave it to my learned co-conservatives to knock this idiotic suggestion out of the park.

I’m waiting for this cretiness to start stage one: getting all those felons out there to register their guns so that they can be taxed.

The stupidity of a liberal knows no bounds.

It is not surprising that they fail to mention that increasing numbers of guns has coincided with decreasing crimes with guns.

Let’s see, the people doing all the shooting already have to go outside the county to buy their handguns, do these idiots really think they won’t do the same for ammo?

Are those who are buying stolen guns and ammo on the street paying the tax?

“Chicago’s homicide rate is up 25 percent this year over last. So it doesn’t seem at all unreasonable to us to ask purchasers of guns and ammunition to help defray the cost.”

Typical, hugely-flawed, lib-dem-gun grabber “logic”.

Idiots!

Why is it that the places with the most gun violence are the places with the strictest gun control?

Cause or effect?

Why not add a violence tax to car sales? After all, cars are used in drive by shootings. Or a violence tax to alcohol? Or the sale of rap music? Or half a dozen other ancillary objects?

It's obscene to tax people to pay for damages they are not responsible for causing.

Instead, they should tax cocaine, heroin, crack, spinners, hip hop and rap.

What part of "shall not be infringed" do they not understand?

I don't think Cook County even recognizes the Constitution anymore.

Lovely!

I can just see the unintended consequences of this one.

Huge tax on ammunition. Black-market ammunition reloaders move into Chicago. Supplying ammo becomes the new rum-running of petty criminals. Soon, people start getting killed by firearms blowing up in their hands. Then there is a cry for government regulation and standards on ammo so that “innocent” “youths” are not hurt by this evil “drug.” Oh, yes, we will soon need a full blown “war on ammo!”

This is not about the budget, it is about the illusion of gun control and more specifically about politicians fear of an armed and angry electorate.

this is like taxing rape victims for hospital treatment from rape violence.

seriously. law abiding folks who have guns are the victims, tax the people responsible for the violence. we know who they are, they are the criminals doing the crimes. they don’t get their guns and ammo from legit places. and if you’re mexican drug guy, Holder’s giving you guns on purpose.

The same folks who are shooting each other really aren't going to worry much about a tax.

OTOH, this is how they got Capone--tax evasion.

They want a tax on exercising Second Amendment Rights?

Fine. I want a tax on First Amendment rights. Let the papers pay by the column inch for the right to publish, and hit them with back taxes all the way back to their founding dates. Milk 'em dry. The money will go to women and minorities: the communities hardest hit by journalistic irresponsibility, after all. Everybody's happy, right?

I always like how the Left defines what is “reasonable”. Comrades, anything that works against 2nd Amendment rights is “reasonable”. /s

If they want to reduce “gun violence” what they need to do is legalize and tax marijuana and use some of the proceeds for drug treatment. The gangs will lose most of their business and will have nothing to fight over.

If the “violence tax” on all ammunition and guns is a good idea, how about a “rape tax” on all alcohol purchases and restaurant meals. After all, rape is frequently associated with alcohol consumption or with dining out. My idea is precisely as sensible as this Chicago proposal.
