Attica Nathaniel Grigsby died 120 years ago, but in a cemetery near Attica on the southern Kansas plains, the farmer still is cursing the Democratic Party from the grave.
History might have eventually forgotten Grigsbys name and overlooked his tombstone as family ties became more distant, yet Grigsby may always be remembered for his famous parting words an epitaph he made his family promise to engrave if they wanted their inheritance.
Through this inscription I wish to enter my dying protest against what is called the Democratic party. I have watched it closely since the days of Jackson and know that all the misfortunes of our nation have come to it through this so called party. Therefore, beware of this party of treason.

“The more things change, the more they stay the same.”
If he could only see what has happened since.
He would be calling both parties tresounous. And he would be right.

An addition to my bucket list. Brings a tear to the eye.
I propose that from hence forward any profound and
appropriate remark made by a FReeper on this forum
regarding the Democrat party be known as a “Grigsby”
and any other Freeper has the power to declare it such.

But is she a Republican?
She laughed and said, Most of my family is. And we dont tell if were not.
All in all, a damn fine philosophy.
He’s lucky he’s not alive today.
Dems got the last laugh.
He’s been voting Democrat every year since his death.
LOL, you make me think of my Irish grandmother. She would have LOVED FR.
She got thrown out of movie theatre once for shouting out “PIGS!” when a newsreel showed FDR and Churchill on screen. (OK, we like Churchill, but she hated him because of Ireland, where/about which he was bad, or so she thought any way, and of course she was right about FDR!)
She HATED all politicians. She once made me stop playing “The wearing o’the Green” on the piano, she said it was a terrible song that “the dirty politicians” had written to drive the people apart.
When I dropped out of the Girl Scouts she shook my hand seriously (the first time anyone had done that) and congratulated me on “finally leaving that dreadful quasi-military organization”.
She was a real character.
