My Decision To Buy A Gun (Female NM journalist/columnist)
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | Sep 3, 2012 | Joline Gutierrez Krueger

Posted on 10/01/2012 12:13:54 PM PDT by CedarDave

So I almost bought a gun.

Let that sink in for a moment — that’s addressed not to you but to me, because I never would have expected to write those words until last week.

I was raised in an unarmed household where hunting was not seen as sporty and protection was a butter knife kept under the pillow.

My years as a crime reporter turned my gun ennui to gun disdain. ...

If you’ve looked into the shell-shocked eyes of enough bereaved parents, seen enough bodies with holes in them, enough blood, enough senseless death, violent moments of rage, foolish mistakes, it’s easy to conclude that no good can come from a gun.

And yet there I was last week with a very patient salesman named Alberto at Sportsmen’s Warehouse trying out firearms as if I was trying on shoes.

Why? I’ll spare you the details because frankly getting into specifics could be dangerous. Suffice it to say that someone dear to me has finally found the courage to leave a horrific relationship.

Domestic violence advocates say the most dangerous time for an abused partner is when he or she (mostly she) leaves. ...

And so I began to think that, given the similarities between the Landeau case and the one that has thrust me and my family into a tumultuous drama we never asked for, maybe it’s time to think beyond the butter knife under the pillow.

I’ll be damned if I’ll allow any of us to become the next “innocent bystanders.”

I have had a thought for a long time that the best cure for random shootings is to license a number of good people to legally carying a gun. The uncertanty of who is in pistol range should convince most bad guys that pulling a gun is a very bad idea.

I don't take advice from feminists, who advocate domestic violence. But it appears that the authoress has decided to get involved in domestic violence for someone else.

One more reason not to buy from them (not that I do).

I went out with this woman about 36 years ago. She didn’t get it then and she doesn’t get it now.

The 2nd Amendment is about allowing you the means to protect yourself and family from human predators.

Actually, as has often been pointed out, the purpose of the 2nd is to ensure that the government does not have a monopoly on force, that the People provide a counterbalance.

Ability to protect against other than governmental human predators is a nice side-effect, but it was not the reason the 2nd was created.

Yes, I am aware of studies indicating a gun in the home is more likely to be stolen, used to commit suicide or accidentally wound or kill some unintended victim than it is to be used in an assault upon the home.

As a journalist, Joline, you should do some real research and find out how bogus those studies are.

Reminds me of the immortal words (well, close enough anyway) of ani-2A crusader Carl T. Rown: Let my opponents know that as long as this country is awash in guns, I will do whatever is neccessary to protect my family. Of course, he spoke these bold words after he shot at some children with an unregistered weapon at his home in Chi-town.

I concur that resistance to an overreaching government is the primary reason for the 2A. However, I was addressing her in the terms she would understand — defense of self and family.

All I can say is honey, buy the damn gun!
It’s the most feminist, impowering thing you can do...
Get a concealed carry permit and you will never be a victim...
Learn to use it properly and you will never live in fear...
Lastly, share this with sisters, it may save their life.....

I read the comments and her responses over there. A lib has taken the first step over to our side.

It didn't seem like it to me. The vibe was more like she was singling herself out for some kind of special anointment.

Yep, true to the creed of liberal hypocrisy.

Hey, nice AK-47 on your homepage. I should’ve got one or two (or three) back in the old days when they were cheap, legal and the getting was good, or reasonably so here in California. But I kept putting it off, telling myself there was plenty of time... I said to myself, “What are they going to do, outlaw them?” :-(
