Why Fox News is souring on Sarah Palin: 3 theories (take it for what it's worth - trash)
The Week ^ | 9/28/12 | Examiner.com, Huff. Post, New York

Posted on 09/28/2012 5:59:42 PM PDT by Evil Slayer

Sarah Palin's increasingly testy relationship with Fox News took a turn for the worse this week, when she wrote on her Facebook page that the cable news channel had canceled interviews she had been scheduled to give during the network's coverage of the Republican convention. Palin was supposed to appear on Fox on Wednesday, the same night that Paul Ryan, her successor as the GOP's vice-presidential candidate, was speaking. Fox executives say Palin got cut simply because time was tight after the convention was condensed from four days to three in the wake of Hurricane Isaac. But this is far from the first public clash between the former Alaska governor and her employer. What's the real story behind the souring relationship? Here, three theories:

1. Palin is not the star she was when Fox hired her Four years ago, Palin was the darling of the GOP, says Scott Paulson at Examiner.com, but she threw that away when she quit her job as governor of Alaska. She's "not even a politician anymore." Face it: With her relevance in the Republican Party fading, Palin's "extended 15 minutes" of fame are running out. And fame is what made her valuable to Fox.

2. And her ratings don't justify her monster salary This is "a classic display of Sarah Palin being, well, Sarah Palin," says Gabriel Sherman at New York. But her Facebook outburst also "reveals something deeper" about Palin's rocky relationship with Fox. Palin is the cable news channel's highest-paid contributor at $1 million a year, but Fox executives are disappointed with her ratings. Her contract is up in January, and Fox is weighing what kind of renewal to sign, "if they sign one at all." Palin, disappointed that she's not getting top billing, is pushing back, but she shouldn't press her luck.

Palin will have a very hard time winning another election, although she might have a shot at McCain's senate seat from AZ. It just doesn't help when you quit you only major elected position. She badly hurt herself by teasing conservatives about running last year, when I think she was using her TV show, her movie, and her bus tour as polling platform, and the numbers apparently were not favorable.

She hit a home run with death panels, but when I heard her, her analysis was philosophically sound, but she didn't seem to do the background work on statistics and specifics of the issues to put her on a par with someone like Dick Morris or Bernie Goldberg. In short, I think she squandered a good opportunity.

RNC basically said to Palin “Be our lap dog, fix us a sandwich or get the F out.”

But Ryan is just a puppet, a sham. He has no influence on the campaign whatsoever. And should Romney/Ryan get elected, Ryan will have no influence on administration policy either.

I think it is dawning on him now ... maybe as early as pre-convention. They call Romney's aides "the Children of the Corn": Ryan will have helped himself to a whole big slice of reality, the first time he got a load of them.

Unless he is somehow elected to his old seat in Congress, he's done in politics -- unless Romney wins. Even then, he'll be like Dan Quayle.

Palin caught the “rock star” bug and sold out for personal gain. I don’t blame her in the least. Then again, I personally won’t count it a great loss if I never see her nor hear from her again, in either an infotainment or political role.

Just my 2c.

Thanks for contributing Mr. Rove.

How about taking those two cents and putting a copper penny on each eye.

She was right about the death panels in Obamacare. And she is right on defense, energy and less government. Who are you people posting negative comments?

We need the ghost of F. Clifton White to rise up from the grave to do some haunting and smiting .... Clif White knew how to handle those schmucks, and he beat them like a bass drum in 1964, when he secured the nomination for Barry.

Those bozos will have ample leisure to eat, and repent, their words about "our Sarah". This is their last hurrah.

1. The gov’s as well-known as any of the hosts/anchors on Fox and better known than most. Speaking of hosting...

2. It’s kind of hard to get big ratings every day from one of your best commentators if you only ever use her as an occasional guest. Speaking of which...

3. Roger Ailes is CEO of Fox News. If he’s unhappy because he’s paying an occasional commentator full-time money and expecting full-time ratings, that’s ultimately his fault.

When did I post a negative comment? Who are you to be making false accusations?

She could have had a legal defense fund, she didn’t try because she was not serious.

Serious people act accordingly.

I don’t think she was serious as a politician. If she were she would have gone back home finished her term and boned up on policy issues.

She could do stump speeches for candidates and get her act together.

Reagan did this for years and it paid off.

I think she just wanted to cash in.

What complete asinine comments.

Do you even know what was happening in Alaska that was forcing her out of the Gov. office...well? Do you. Hello? Hello? HELLO McFly Hello!!!!

Like 500k in legal bills in bogus ethics complaints
Never ending MSM mantra that she’s in crisis due to “ethics scandals”.

Like the Alaska state house locking her out of ANY legislative bills/agendas. NADA, ZIP, ZERO!!! Hello? Hello? Fricken Hello, McFly, Hello!!! Where have you been Mikey for the past few years???

Like the Giffords shooting.

She’s helped a lot of candidates in 2010 and 2012. She has been making stump speeches and has been boning up....and she has many more years of doing this. Hello? Hello? HELLO McFly!!!!

She got elected against two dynasties in Alaska out of nowhere and is an instant rally point for the base. The RNC wants nothing out of the TP except votes and money.

And just what’s wrong with making money? At least she making an honest buck.

Sarah had two problems that were news to me (and maybe to her). One, insecure women hated her. Two, megalopolitan Atlantic-Slope society, where knowing where to find good bagels counts more than knowing how to clean fish or gut a deer, hated her. They despise everything she stands for -- because, basically, those cities are full of ethnics that never apparently left Europe attitudinally and don't really get, like, appreciate, or want anything to do with America west of the Blue Ridge. That's oversimplifying, but it's basically true, and it reveals two big weaknesses in her appeal that explain the viciousness of the Eastern press, especially the elite press and opinion.

Whaddayamean -- she didn't go to an Ivy? Or even Georgetown?! Whatta bum! Whatta bumpkin! Natty Bumppo in heels -- how droll!!

Sarah does not fit the mold of a politician. She had a life and being Governor was just one small piece of it. She had her list of things she wanted to get done as a governor and she did them. Why stay on? To do what? Become more like the Pelosi’s and McCain’s who will be there until they die? Doing what exactly?

We are all used to people running for political office who don’t have a specific list of things they want to accomplish on behalf of the people who vote for them. So they keep running for re-election.

I’d rather have one Sarah rather than 5 of those other guys.

Ahhhhh Mikey, a modicum of research would of revealed that the detractors lodged an ethics complaint against her legal defense fund. Her enemies were willing to go that low.

She did have a legal defense fund but they went after that as well.

If Palin has stayed for the last two years, you would be bitching about all the ethics complaints, 1 million in legal bills and that she didn’t get anything passed in her last two years.

Ailes has even reportedly called Palin just plain "stupid."

Hey Ailes: Rivera, Colmes, Williams, and Shemp are on your payroll. You might want to look in a mirror.

eyes rolling. concern troll much?

You KNOW why she left the gov seat in Alaska. C’mon, tell the truth. That’s a good little boy, you can tell the audience the whole story. Just rent the DVD “The Undefeated”.

That’s right, tell the grown ups the real reasons and not DNC talking points.

Got a Scooby snack for you if you can get it right the first time.

Good doggie.

Well, she's kind of dumb and never added anything to the conversation. I guess she has a lot of mouth breather appeal, but it hurt the credibility of the network that she never got any hardball questions and had to be treated like a beauty queen all the time (well, she was a beauty queen, right?)

Can they take that $1m and give it to Ann Coulter instead?

Me too. The GOP and RNC likely of very different opinion. Both entities are not representative of conservatives. They are, however, a heckofa lot better than the current administration. Sarah suggested that Romney "go rogue." It's the same thing conservative and republican writers and commentators are now urging him to do.

When Romney speaks off the cuff, he says what many of us are thinking and the result is that he wins popular opinion (no matter which side of the political fence listeners happen to be located). He should leave the political speechwriting to Obama's people (whose audiences have been bored out of their trees with him - and the repetitive messages he's given - for quite some time already!)
