On Friday's NBC Today, special correspondent Tom Brokaw demonstrated the blatant media effort to ignore Obama administration failures surrounding the consulate attack in Libya: "Romney turned out to give the President air cover. There are serious questions about what happened in Libya and the absence of security and what is our Middle East policy, but Romney's missteps really have given the President more camouflage than he would have expected."
Brokaw lamely attempting to blame Mitt Romney for the failure of the media to ask tough national security questions of Obama echoed a recent revealing statement by CBS News political director John Dickerson, who declared that it was solely Romney's responsibility to hold the President to account over Libya because the media would not.
This is Clinton redux. “We couldn’t grill Bill Clinton on sexual harassment, sexual assault, perjury, suborning perjury, abuse of power, etc, because that Ken Starr just seemed to be interested in nothing but Bill Clinton’s sex life, the pervert.

Here’s what I believe happened.
Romney on day one called out Obama for failing to condemn this as a terrorist attack after more that 12 hours of silence and for later appeasing the Islamic world instead of defending free speech as a President should.
Obama knew that if he called this a terrorist attack, which it obviously was considering the anniversary of 9/11, then questions would be raised (questions that an even overly biased MSM would be forced to ask from day one after admitting it) on the irresponsible lack of security at the consulate and on his pro Arab Spring foreign policy. Obama also would have had to defend free speech because declaring it a terrorist attack would make the argument that all of this was caused by a never even heard of Youtube video null and void.
Instead, Obama used Romney’s comments that he knew was correct as an opportunity to let the MSM denounce Romney as long as they could to cover for the downright recklessness of his Administration on this issue.
Now weeks afterwards Obama can claim that it was a terrorist attack that would have proved Romey’s weak response comments true, but instead gained political points as the MSM provided cover and bashed Romney for weeks directing much of the shock and outrage at the situation onto Romney and the Youtube video. Playing on the average American’s short attention span he can now deny and misdirect with the knowledge that the American public won’t have the answers questions until after the election.

Perhaps with NBC’s being on the verge of utter collapse they can lay Brokaw off leaving *him* free to bare his soul.
Never happen. obama needs the media too much to allow it to collapse. If NBC news was in danger of going out of business, obama would bail them out and pay their salaries with taxpayer money.
It isn’t Romney’s fault at all, definitely not. But I do believe Obama knew the truth that it was a terrorist attack. Instead of taking the heat for it and proving Romney’s initial criticisms of the Administrations incompetence correct, which would have given Romney a key political point in a close election during the wake of American outrage at the situation, he instead denied it and funneled some of that outrage by using the MSM to vilify Romney’s “disrpespectful” comments and also placed blame on the Youtube movie to cover for his Arab Spring policies.
I’d bet he knew that American’s would have demanded answers on day one had he admitted it as a terrorist attack, but now that he misdirected it on Romney and that outrage has subsided he can just kick the can down the road.
I think that that some of this will come to light eventually, but definitely not until after the election through investigations and that’s the entire point.
