Romney: ‘I’m going to win Ohio’

TOLEDO, Ohio—Mitt Romney projected confidence Wednesday that he's going to win Ohio, in spite of a recent spate of polls showing him trailing President Barack Obama in this crucial swing state.

"I'm going to win Ohio," Romney told NBC's Ron Allen in an interview. "I'm going to become the next president."

In a separate interview with ABC's David Muir, Romney downplayed several recent polls that suggest he's losing ground to Obama in Ohio and other battleground states. "Polls go up, polls go down," Romney told ABC. But, he added, he was "absolutely convinced" that people would support his campaign after watching his first debate with Obama, scheduled for next week.

Romney's comments came as he wrapped up a quick bus tour in Ohio with a rally at a convention center here—vowing he will create new jobs and turn the economy around "when I become president."

Fueled by the cheers of more than 3,000 supporters, Romney repeatedly slammed Obama, linking him to increased gas prices—which he claimed had doubled under Obama's watch—and accusing the president of wanting to raise taxes on small businesses.

"He wants to raise the tax rates on them. That'll kill jobs," Romney said. "I'm gonna lower the tax rates. He wants to raise them. I'll create jobs. He'll kill 'em."

The Nation had a bizarre article today saying that Ras polling is making the GOP complacent despite every other poll looking the other way.

Doesn’t make sense at all. The fact that other polls including Gallup show a lead for Obama make me want to work harder.

No, but you have to keep your mouth shut for the next 4 years. By not voting, you give up the right to complain. No Romney bashing if he wins, and no bashing of Obama, since you helped him stay in the White Hut by clinging to misguided principles.

Yes, I did say misguided principles. I am a staunch conservative. But in this election cycle, my most important principle is to see the Marxist ousted from the White Hut. Anyone who holds those same principles, are no less principled than you are, they are just more practical.

Here's something that should help......I was digging into voter results from 2008 thru 2011 and after Kasich, R was elected Governor of the state and Jon Husted, R was elected Sec. of State in 2010, the registered voter rolls in the state were cleaned up between the 2010 and 2011 numbers. In the 2008 and the 2010 elections, Ohio was showing 8.0 million registered voters... as of the 2011 election there was a net loss of 300,000 registered voters over all in teh state and the figures stand at 7.7 million registered in the state.

What I'm attempting to offer here is that the new Sec. of State of Ohio is attempting to clean the rolls of voters in Ohio.....and are continuing to do so in 2012, since my spouse and I received our notices to cancel our registration to vote in Ohio since we moved.

Finally of the 8 million registered voters in 2008 Obama received 2.94 million votes, McCain recieved 2.67 million.....300,000 less registered voters makes a difference to the overall win or loss with in the state, period.

BTW, 2012 registeration as of the primaries still shows at 7.7 million.

Gonna have to add you to the OH early voting list. NONE of the data we are seeing says anything except a convincing Romney win.”

In 08 we were operating under the Rove Rule that said if you get out your base, esp. in OH, you will win.

We got out most of our base. 25% voted for Obama.

Do you think that will happen again? Do you think ANY Republican will vote for Obama? Or any Dem for Romney (I know, there will be a few, but it will be a wash).

You know, I’ve been getting pretty impatient with Mitt. But was talking to a guy at work today and we were discussing Mitt’s approach versus the mack-daddy’s and Mitt just needs to be himself, BE THE CEO. The mack-daddy can shuck and jive and play eye candy all day long and lie, too, for that matter. But Mitt is better off going to his core competency of being an executive: laying out the numbers, talking to the vision and values of America, being calm and honest with people. Against that, the mack-daddy would look like he’s pandering, which he is. So Mitt doesn’t need to go on the attack and he doesn’t even need to parry with the mack-daddy. He simply needs to talk about what he will do. And that’s what he’s beginning to do. It’ll work.
