Omran Ben Shaaban was kidnapped, shot and tortured by people who many in Misrata believe were supporters of the late dictator.
The 22-year-old died in France, where he was receiving medical treatment for his injuries. ...

Full story at link. Interesting details of the power blocks operating in Libya - the real Libya, not the false front usually presented in the media.

I know when Gaddafi was in power our ambassadors were safe; this guy just accelerated the descent into madness.

Are you sure there were no US Ambassadors on Pan Am flight 103?

No, there weren’t; were there any in Serbia when we bombed them?

“Gaddafi was not madness???”
In hindsight, what do you think? Saddam, Gaddafi, and Mubarak were rulers of Muslim countries who successfully suppressed fanaticism; we have since turned those over to the crazies. Gaddafi had some weird outfits, but he wasn’t crazy.

“No, there werent”
But there were Americans aboard Pan Am 103 when it was bomber by Gaddafi?

“Gaddafi was not madness???”
Apparently for some people, bombing a 747 full of Americans does not qualify for madness.

I agree with you, and the illegality of NATO’s attack on Libya’s recongised sovereign govt was very flagrant. A bad precedent, which we will eventually regret.
To: kearnyirish2
Don't know if he was good or bad for us. History will tell. That has nothing to do with was he crazy or not. Lot's of megalomaniac rulers out there. Now and previous history.

I think so; the link to him was tenuous at best, and Bush II removed him from the “axis of evil”.
We have completely destabilized the Middle East by removing (or failing to support) those who kept the savages in line. Egyptian and Syrian troops fought alongside Americans to remove Saddam from Kuwait; do you see that ever happening again? They also knew better than to unseat him, warning the Americans at the time that they needed him to rule Iraq because it would be ungovernable without him.

You’re right, and I’d guess the ambassador already regrets it.

The link between Gaddafi and Pan Am 103 was so tenuous that Gaddafi admitted that Libya was responsible and he paid reparations.
To: Uncle Slayton
Gaddafi never said he ordered the attack; he bought his way back into the good graces of the US.

In hindsight, Saddam, Gaddafi were better than the alternatives. They were madmen, evil, murderous, but their successors are worse.

The bombing of the 747 was madness, yes, but the replacements are worse -- it's like replacing the medium sized devil with a bunch of large devils
