When I was in the Lisbon embassy in ‘99, it was guarded by armed marines and we had to show id at the gate.
This was under Clinton during a fairly calm period.

I bet the Obama Administration FAILED to secure, from various host countries, more protection from INSIDE the embassy. All he was able to secure was a promise of more police patrols. The heightened security for our embassies is from OUTSIDE the embassy and beyond our control.

He is trying to spin his failure by convincing us that security isn’t needed because it is useless. If that was really his attitude, he would refuse secret service protection.
