New voting laws in 23 of the 50 states could keep more than 10 million Hispanic U.S. citizens from registering and voting, a new study said on Sunday, a number so large it could affect the outcome of the November 6 election.
The Latino community accounts for more than 10 percent of eligible voters nationally. But the share in some states is high enough that keeping Hispanic voters away from the polls could shift some hard-fought states from support for Democratic President Barack Obama and help his Republican rival, Mitt Romney.

That imposes onerous and sometimes expensive documentation requirements on voters, especially targeting naturalized American citizens, many of whom are Latino, the liberal group said.

Not all of the laws listed below have taken effect. Please see the footnotes for detailed information.

* New voter ID law has not yet been implemented; state presently has no voter ID law in effect.
** New voter ID law has not yet been implemented; an older voter ID law remains in effect.
(1) In Alabama, South Carolina and Texas, current non-photo voter ID laws stay in effect for the time being. The new photo voter ID requirements will take effect after receiving preclearance under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act. South Carolina and Texas were denied pre-clearance in December 2011 and March 2012, respectively. Alabama's new photo ID law has a 2014 effective date, and the state has not yet applied for pre-clearance.
(2) Wisconsin's voter ID law was declared unconstitutional on March 12, 2012. Dane County Circuit Judge Richard Niess issued a permanent injunction barring enforcement of the law, which the state has said it will appeal.
(3) There are some who prefer to call Oklahoma a photo voter ID state, because most voters will show a photo ID before voting. However, Oklahoma law also permits a voter registration card issued by the appropriate county elections board to serve as proof of identity in lieu of photo ID.
(4) Rhode Island's voter ID law takes effect in two stages. The first stage, requiring a non-photo ID, took effect on January 1, 2012. On January 1, 2014, a photo ID requirement will replace the non-photo ID law.
(5) Alabama's new photo ID requirement takes effect with the 2014 statewide primary election. The new law also requires preclearance. The delayed implementation date was intended to ensure that the timing of preclearance did not occur between the primary and general elections of 2012, thus creating voter confusion.
(6) Mississippi's new voter ID law was passed via the citizen initiative process. It takes effect 30 days after the certification of results, a date that will likely fall in late December 2011 or early January 2012. However, the language in constitutional amendment passed by MS voters on Nov. 8 is very general, and implementing legislation will be required before the amendment can take effect. The MS provision will also require pre-clearance under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act before it can take effect.
We run our ID though a magnetic strip reader when we vote here in Michigan and the poll worker visibly checks it as well.
Six non-citizens admitted to Broward County Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes they are registered voters but should not be allowed to vote, Snipes reported yesterday at a community forum. The non-citizens asked to be removed from the registered voter list.
The non-citizens came forward after receiving a letter of inquiry from Snipes office. As for the other suspected non-citizens, Snipes said she would err on the side of caution and wait for a more reliable list.
Snipes reported the non- citizens inclusion on voter registration lists the same day an attorney for the Florida State Association Of Supervisors Of Elections advised elections supervisors they can resume removing non-citizens from voter registration lists.
Ron Labasky, general counsel for the Association, sent out a memo late Wednesday saying elections supervisors can resume removing non- citizens if supervisors have sufficient documentation that a person is not a U.S. citizen.
An official list provided by the Broward Supervisor of Elections shows 46 of 262 suspected non-citizens voted in elections dating as far back as 1984.
Last month, Snipes told the media that any non-citizen casting a vote is committing a felony.
Snipes sent letters to the 262 registered voters asking them to provide proof of citizenship. Snipes gave the non-citizens 30 days to respond.
Media Trackers Florida verified votes had been cast by using two different voter information services. Our review shows 31 votes cast by registered Democrats, 5 votes cast by registered Republicans, and 10 votes cast by persons with no party affiliation.
I’m also a naturalized citizen...
I dont remember what I needed to register to vote...
Back during the 1970s when I started voting documentation was still important so I probably also had to show my naturalization certificate...
We were suppose to have it with us at all times...
This is just an excuse to allow the illegal aliens to vote...
after all who else would be void of ID to vote ???
In the age of computers, one cannot track who is who??!!! BS. Forget to pay alimony? BAM Forget to pay back taxes? BAM Newt is right when he llustrates how FEDEX tracks several million MOVING packages a day and the gov cannot track millions of static people. In the 1980’s INS would show up at a factory with computer print outs and nail illegal immigrant workers so well that the factory owners had to call their Congressman to put a stop to the practice. Today with wireless access and computer data, we cannot catch illegals working and voting???!!!!
Its very simple. Grandma dies, the daughter still votes for her. The room-mate moved to a new state...somebody still votes for him locally.
Its indetectable. If you know where a dead/moved away friend or relative lived, you can go vote for him. No study can discern whether or not that has happened."
Ding!^^^
If you don't measure it and have no means to even attempt to measure it, then of course "studies" will find little of it.
The boodsuckers of Social Justice.
For a Latino, it is easier to get an ID than it is to buy a taco in America.
Same happened with me, I don’t think they even asked my Naturalization certificate. It is so easy.
Naturalized citizens would have an entire paper trail from when they were resident aliens and then finally got their citizenship.

and a connecting paper trail...
The number from my Alien Registration Card (Green Card) is printed onto my Naturalization certificate...
Under the Naturalization number...
and theres a photo of 26 year old Nana attached..
and some interesting words...
“Be it known that at a term of the United States District Court of ....held pursuant to law at ....on January 23, 1975 the court having found that Tennessee Nana then residing at ....intends to reside permanently in the United States (when so required by the Naturalization Laws of the United States) had in all other respects complied with the applicable provisions of such naturalization laws, and was entitled to be admitted to citizenship, thereupon ordered that such person be, and (s)he was admitted as a citizen of the United States of America.
In testimony whereof the seal of the court is hereunto affixed this 23rd day of January in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and seventy-five”
There. I fixed it.
“In the age of computers, one cannot track who is who??!!! “
Some people overestimate how ‘smart’ our government can be, especially with managing data. Only very recently did our various states band together to share DNA database information on felons, for example.
Here is another example...say my uncle were to die, and he lived in a different precinct than mine. What stops me from voting in my precinct, and then casually driving over to his pricinct, and voting again. I can do that until the end of time (or at least until I die and my nephew starts voting for my corpse), and nobody will ever detect it. If you know the name of a dead person on the rolls, you’re in.
Voter ID solves all of this, since I look nothing like my uncle.
That and violence like that orchestrated by obama after his cousin odinga lost in kenya.
Many Hispanic citizens are not citizens.. they are INSURGENTS..
Also true of several/many other nationality’s..
Hispanic is not a race its a consortium of many nationalities.. mostly NON North American..
Then you have your Chinese and other Asian insurgents..
What is a citizen is severely clouded by democrats ON PURPOSE...
Democrats NEED federal givernment slaves.. drones for their Hive.. their collective..
Democrats are IN FACT “the BORG”..
A brief reading of “Rules for Radicals”-Saul Alinsky will show you that..
IF NOT- well no doubt you are a drone..
LOL.... I know that. I would never expect you to do that. I was just hoping this was not a battleground state because what you shared is a ripe situation for voter fraud. In either a solid Red or Blue state, it wouldn’t make any difference. Now, knowing that it’s Ohio, I’m a little concerned.
Thank you very much.
My wife is a naturalized citizen, and has voted in every election since she became eligible to do so.
So did 3 of my 4 grandparents, also naturalized citizens, and none of whom were in any way wealthy when they started voting.
This story, like all the rest of the bleating from the Leftist pols, media and press, is all about enabling fraudulent voting for themselves or their preferred candidates. I, for one, hope that Romney is elected and that his AG simply allows every state to pass whatever voter ID law it wants - so long as everyone is treated equally. It is NOT too much to ask someone to prove who they are to vote, not when you can’t cash a check or buy Pseudafed without it. That excuse is a big, steaming pile, and everyone knows it.
This whole article is NONSENSE!
Free ID’s are available in nearly if not all states that have ID laws... this is just crap.
We followed the rules and didn't jump in front of anyone to get where we are...
This just BURNS me RAW!!!!
In the good old days, if you didn't get off your butt as a born/legal citizen to register to vote by the deadline you just had to wait until the next election....and it was tough sh!t for you...I say lets get back to that standard.
After all, it's not like they wait till the last minute to campaign these days......
