Three in four Americans feel they have little or nothing in common with Mitt Romney, while nearly 60 percent feel the same way about President Barack Obama, according to an Esquire/Yahoo! News poll.
In the wake of Romney's remarks dismissing nearly half of Americans as self-identified victims who are dependent on governmentvideotaped at a donor event earlier this year and posted online this week by Mother Jones magazinethese new numbers are more bad news for a candidate struggling to connect with ordinary Americans. The margin of error for the survey, conducted shortly after the two national political conventions, is plus or minus 4 percentage points.
Further complicating the Republican ticket's image problem is that a Romney presidency is viewed as significantly more beneficial to wealthy Americans than a second Obama term would be. Sixty-two percent of those surveyed said the wealthy would be better off under Romney than Obama. That split reverses when Americans were asked who would benefit the poor: 57 percent say Obama, 30 percent say Romney.

Did anyone ever think they'd live to see the entire media so in the tank for any single politician?
What’s this ‘feel a connection’ crap? Have women emasculated our society that badly? Apparently so.
I sure as hell feel no personal connection to Obama!
I don’t want to marry Romney just vote for him!
Ok maybe I don't have much in common with Romney, but the same was true of Reagan. I do however feel both men are closer in values to me, and there's the difference.
Example, I don't personally know any communists, much less scores of them
I don't see Mao as an inspiration
I think the police by and large try to do what's right and enforce the law.
I never met a domestic terrorist, much less befriended one.
So while I don't travel in the same circles as Romney, I think he's closer in belief's to me than the pretend president is.
I don’t need to feel ‘connected’ to Romney .... I DO need to be ‘disconnected’ from Obummer in November.
What a stupid question. I don’t want a personal connection with politicians - I just want them to lead us out of this disaster. Talk about the chickification of America.
What a just plain stupid addition to political analysis. The media is so lost.....
What a load of crap. No connection? Romney is the guy who shows up at the neighbor’s house to help dig up a stump or to get a hornet’s nest off the roof. Romney is the guy who spends time with a dying kid. Romney is the guy who shows up with presents at the house of a church member at Christmas. Obama does none of these things. Obama has a criminal give him a sweetheart deal on a house. Obama spends a fortune on vacations at the expense of the taxpayer. Obama thinks the average American clings to guns and religion out of bitterness.
Yahoo “News” took a bit of time out from posting its mindless celebrity gossip and fashion updates to pretend for a fleeting moment that it’s a real-life news organization.
Meanwhile, the totally corrupted leftmedia continues to brazenly pimp for Obama's re-election and issues fake polls that always, always put Romney in a bad light while making Obama look good by comparison. The U.S. media has become nothing more than a Democrat propaganda machine...and is just as useless.
This country is going in the toilet and this is what we get?
4 in 4 feel little connection with Yahoo News!
I don’t CARE. I don’t NEED a “personal” connection with a political figure to vote for him or her. At this point it doesn’t matter a whit to me- he’s NOT OBAMA. That is ALL that matters.
Sheesh...are we electing presidents now based on whether or not they have an American Idol personality???
I AM SO FED UP WITH THIS CRAP.
I have “no personal connection” to Obama, so there.
With Romney there is the same state, same political party, both devoted to Christian-based religion (okay, I know...), close family, Mr. Romney loves the U.S.
Pretty stupid question. An 8th grade level quiz. Typical for Esquire and Yahoo.
yeah the connection I feel to O is his hand in my pocket trying to steal my wallet
Neither guy passes the “who would I be willing to spend a day on a float trip with a case of beer test”.
I’d be sorely tempted to throw both out of the raft when we hit rapids and keep the beer... (theoretically speaking)

When I read this story about the fellow who bought his house in Idaho, I felt a lot better about how Romney will connect with us “average folks”.
sorry, I meant Utah, not Idaho.
