Political reporters on Twitter are saying they are standing by for a Romney media availability on the video released today by Mother Jones of Romney at a May fundraiser speaking frankly of his thoughts on Obama's base voters and their entitlement mentality, aka the 47% who pay no federal income taxes.
The media and GOP-E have jumped ugly on Romney tonight.
Steve Holland, Reuters: Romney at press avail to respond to video says his comments weren't "elegantly stated," and "could have said it in a more effective way."
Romney's brought to light an issue I've been harping on for years. You see, back in the 1980s, there were approximately 35% who paid no federal income tax. Now we're at 47%. See the trend? And when we get to 51%, it will be *game over*.
People wonder how come Obama can have such high support in the worst economy since the 1930s, how so many people can vote for politicians who promise even more and bigger spending programs although we're already broke? This is why. When almost half the people have no skin in the game, higher taxes, higher spending, higher deficits mean *nothing* to them.
I've come to the point where I believe *everyone*, even the poor, should have to pay some federal income tax, even if it is just a token amount. But an amount high enough so that when politicians promise more spending, then everyone, including the poor, will be forced to ask, What will this cost me?
Romney has embraced the RINO Hydra of trying in vain to win over Moderates, Independents, Undecided and of the other fence sitters.
Here is the main idea from the article that I base this on: - - - Asked why he wouldnt go full-throttle and assail Obama as corrupt, Romney explained the internal thinking of his campaign and revealed that he and his aides, in response to focus-group studies conducted by his consultants, were hesitant to hammer the president too hard out of fear of alienating independents who voted for Obama in 2008 - - - .
Key phrases that keep Romney tied with Obama are his aides, focus-group studies, his consultants, and fear of alienating independents.
PC stands for “Poor Choice” Romney, and is the favorite tool of the Liberals.
America needs a leader to get us back on the right Track, Romney.
Tick-Tock Romney: can you discard the above 4 PC groups that keep you tied with Obama? Tick-Tock.
A politician might well keep a cynical eye or two on those numbers when it comes to votes ~ but he doesn't tell people about it!
Indeed. We have lost our will to fight as a party. The general “we”...not passionate people like I see here.
I am frustrated with the weakness and spineless behavior!
Look, folks, you just gotta wake up!!! There is no such thing as a free lunch. period!!! As for “Mother Jones:, “Politico”, the entire Obamabot media, they are in full panic mode, and are doing everything they can to take down and destroy Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. So....forget their insane rants, raves and faux polls, and....just keep your eyes on the prize, defeating Obama and his “traitor” Democrat Party!!!
If we stick together, turn out in massive record numbers to vote for Romney/Ryan, we save these United States of America. It is as simple as that!!!
I just said the federal personal income tax is one of those government programs that should be abolished ~ turn that 47% into 100%!
Today I went to SS office, there was a AA guy, age early 20s, weight 300+ lbs, filling form for disability. He was able to walk, well fed, spent lot of money on hair, shoes and blings all over.
That is the problem with government.
The fact that you can still find time to bitch about Romney, even after what you've witnessed from Obama this past week says a lot about you...and it ain't good.
“Let me ask you this, ever work on something where your efforts could result in $1 billion more, or $1 billion less than otherwise ~ with your absence?”
Nice to hear your fantasies.
It goes well with your fantasy that Mitt doesn’t understand economics or taxes.
you are an economic illiterate.
If we tax all income the same, we will RUIN investment incentive and crash the economy.
The point was many people work, but don't earn enough to pay fed taxes. I imagine they are part of what he considered that 47%.
No?
No. Hes talking about people who dont make a decent living because they choose not to.
Huh?
Wait a minute, so you're saying those that don't earn enough working to pay fed taxes are not part of that 47% percent?
It's not weakness or spinelessness - there is a small and dedicated group on FR that just don't like Mitt Romney. They have posted as much since the primaries, and continue to do so right up until this thread. After he's elected, they will continue to do so. :)
I’ve never met people who care more for their country, are more aware of the contents of full length political articles, of what’s going on in the world, than people I’ve met here or other political forums, so, no, you’re right, it’s not ‘we’.
It’s quite depressing trying to drum up any excitement and passion for these important issues with people around me in my social network, save perhaps a few, who do keep up and are also beyond upset.
You’d think that those elected for office would show some strength and conviction. Almost never seen. And our country suffers for it.
Government needs to be paid for. The problem is when the majority decides to provide benefits from themselves by taxing the minority.
If everyone had to pay income tax in a lump sum on April 15, we’d quickly see some changes in the size of government.
” - - - because less his advisers control his message, the better. “
Well said!
Romney’s sorry “advisors” hold back Romney in the Polls by at least 10 % !
Then he best get off his RINO ass and start using it for something besides baby pictures and cat videos.
Can anyone here tell me how it is that Romney speaking directly to the people “AT WILL” in a way Reagan could have only dreamed of...is a bad idea?
Make the media react to him just like Palin does.
So why the hell, if he really wants to win, isn’t he doing it?
What I’m saying is that there are those who are part of that 47% who have to be, but are trying not to be...and there are those in that 47% who plan to stay there all their lives.
It's a conceit of the rich that the poor are just faking it. If the guy wants to be president he has to get over that.
Absolutely correct. Everyone should have skin in the game, even if it’s only a couple of bucks per paycheck.
