Maureen Dowd meets anti-Semitism charge
By DYLAN BYERS | 9/16/12 6:42 PM EDT
New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd set the Jewish political community on fire today with a column about the Republican ticket's foreign policy proposals that, according to her critics, peddled anti-Semitic imagery.
Dowd fairly observed that neither Mitt Romney nor Paul Ryan are experts in the field of foreign policy, but asserted their strategy was orchestrated by a "neocon puppet master" who was leading the neocon effort to "slither back" into power.
Such language, to say nothing of the questionable legitimacy of her claims, struck experts on American-Israeli relations as an inappropriate (though perhaps unintentional) appeal to anti-Semitic stereotypes, and especially offensive ahead of the first night of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah.
"Dowd's use of anti-Semitic imagery is awful," Steven A. Cook, a senior fellow for Middle Eastern studies at the Council on Foreign Relations, wrote on Twitter.
"Maureen may not know this, but she is peddling an old stereotype, that gentile leaders are dolts unable to resist the machinations and manipulations of clever and snake-like Jews," Jeffrey Goldberg, the Atlantic columnist and leading journalist on Israeli issues, wrote.
"[A]mazing that apparently nobody sat her down and said, this is not OK," Blake Hounshell, the managing editor of Foreign Policy magazine, tweeted.
On the right, The Weekly Standard's Daniel Halper called it "outrageous," while Commentary's Jonathan Tobin described it as "particularly creepy."
"Dowds column marks yet another step down into the pit of hate-mongering that has become all too common at the Times," Tobin wrote. "This is a tipping point that should alarm even the most stalwart liberal Jewish supporters of the president."

That changed when we transitioned from the cold war period into the post cold war period and NeoCon was used to define a foreign policy doctrine and there are numerous gentile NeoCons who subscribe to the NeoCon doctrine.
The cornerstone of the NeoCon doctrine states that the US won the cold war, is the last remaining superpower, and thus is the world hegemon. The world is unipolar and the US is at the top of the pole. NeoCons are also known as Idealists in that humanitarianism and nation building are a major componant of the doctrine.
Whenever any one criticizes the NeoCon doctrine, whether that be Pat Buchanan, Ron Paul, Maureen Dowd, or anyone else, they are called antisemitic.
Can't remember the time frame, but once the election was over, Douglas dumped her for CZJ.
In order to mark her whoring for Douglas and against the idea of fair and reasonable reporting and commentary, the mention of MoDo requires pictures of CJZ to remind her of the use and personal humiliation she suffered for her scrivenings at the behest of Douglas.
She still hasn't learned from her mistakes, though I will give her credit for being the first to notice then-Senator BHO's elephant ears.
You win! That’s got to be the post of the year! I can’t stop laughing. It’s as good as the one a Freeper posted a few days ago that went, “If you put her out in a field the crows would bring back corn they stole three years ago.”
It has been my experience that every single person I've known who used the word "NeoCon" also happened to have a major problem with Jooos. None of them ever offered a rational argument over policy differences, but every one of them expressed a bitter dislike for those "NeoCons." I don't presume to judge people I've never met, but it's been 100% in my personal experience.
As for your phrase "rational argument over policy differences", that would depend on how you lean. If you are a NeoCon, other doctrines or policies are not rational.
For example, I think that Bob Gates, Henry Kissinger, James Baker, and other foreign policy Realists made a much better argument to not intervene in Libya but the NeoCon Republicans and Liberal Interventionist Democrats carried the argument and and Obama intervened. This doesn't mean Gates, Kissinger, and Baker are antisemitic, although they have been called that. Especially Kissinger since he is a Jew..
Which brings you to the next issue. In the USA there are many, many, many more Jews that aren't NeoCons than there are Jews that are NeoCons. When Non-NeoCon Jews criticize NeoCons, they are always called self-loathing or self-hating Jews by the NeoCons.
I’m sure there are some who find the “neocon” description meaningful, but those disreputable people I have known have so poisoned the word “neocon” for me that I turn away when I hear it. I do not in any way ascribe anti-Semitic motives to you for using it; I just have a visceral dislike for the word.
Well, try using "neo-COM" on a RAT.
Now that, my friend, is FUNNY! By the way, your screen name is great - I have a friend with a Hunter/Jumper horse named Rock Lobster. Now let’s vote!
A case in point is their use of the term 'neo-conservative.' Whether they choose to hyphenate the label or not, it's a pejorative code word for 'Jews.'
Anti-Semites Use "Neo-Con" Code Word, By Rush Limbaugh
Rushlimbaugh.com, April 22, 2003
Gee, and here I thought “neocon” was another simple new pejorative against conservatives by trying to make it sound even more NAZI.
It is just a name, but more than anything else, it is a doctrine and as such it can be defined and criticised(or praised if you lean that way). Or as Obama has done, the neocons can be apologized for.
Thanks.
As Rush says, for satire to be funny, there has to be an element of truth to it, and progressives are communists.
And thank you sir, for your service to our country.
oh, come on, Mo tries!
Not at all unusual for a single word to carry a variety of meanings.
LOL! That’s a hoot, she needs to try harder.
Neocons are delusional fools allied to the Muslim Brotherhood and Al Qaeda in encircling Israel. The claim to be Zionists and supporters of American power. They are actually clueless ideologues on the same level as the leftists who support them in the Democracy Jihad.
Well....I heard Mark Levin use it yesterday to describe Bush folks..it is an accurate word and not all are Jews
Fred Barnes........Rove......most of Fox and WSJ and NRO
And yes some are Jews...Kristol .....Krauthammer
All are light on culture war
Saying one shouldn’t criticize them since many well known are Jews is stupid
Democrat identity logic to shut people up
I detest the lack of a moral compass or realism in NeoCons in their lack of cultural conservatism and love of nation building and open borders
So shoot me...
Freepers acting like PC dems is a sad carnival
An "Evil Jooooo" is a Jewish person who has jumped the reservation and no longer works as a Leftwingtard lackey.
