WASHINGTON After days of anti-American violence across the Muslim world, the White House is girding itself for an extended period of turmoil that will test the security of American diplomatic missions and President Obamas ability to shape the forces of change in the Arab world.
Although the tumult subsided Saturday, senior administration officials said they had concluded that the sometimes violent protests in Muslim countries may presage a sustained crisis with unpredictable diplomatic and political consequences. While pressing Arab leaders to tamp down the unrest, Mr. Obama and his advisers are left to consider whether to scale back diplomatic activities in the region.
The unrest has suddenly become Mr. Obamas most serious foreign policy crisis of the election season, and analysts say it is calling into question central tenets of his Middle East policy. Did he do enough throughout the Arab Spring to help the transition to democracy from autocracy? Has he drawn a hard enough line against Islamic extremists? Did his administration fail to address security concerns? Has his outreach to the Muslim world yielded any lasting benefits?
These questions come at an inopportune time domestically as Mr. Obama enters the last stages of a campaign season with a measurable lead in polls.

The Arab desert needs to be preserved. It should be encased under a thin layer of glass.
Talk about watered down. Were they this weak and insipid during Carter’s?
Hasn't he done enough 'shaping'?
From the last paragraph:
“...he suffered from an intelligence breakdown...”
How would he know if he never attends the briefing or were they referring to Obama’s intelligence?
Who makes up this SLOCK and calls it news reporting?!
The fricking White House is in Vegas, stuffing his pockets. What a joke this has become. They even blame this on a fricking utube flick, when it was 911! Just a co-inky dink surely, 911 means nothing...
It seems Islam has not forgotten it is a war with us, even though the entire Congress, Whitey House and the Merged-Media propaganda outlets have.
Perhaps his people should read memri which quoted a threat from a jihad forum:
This MEMRI JTTM report was released four days before the demonstration in Cairo, on September 7.
On September 7, 2012, Nasser Al-Qaeda, a prominent writer on the Jihadi forum Shumoukh Al-Islam suggested burning down the U.S. embassy in Egypt with all workers inside in order to pressure the U.S. to release Sheikh ‘Omar ‘Abd Al-Rahman aka the Blind Sheikh. In the post, titled “How can the U.S. embassy remain in Egypt while [the U.S.] imprisons Sheikh ‘Omar ‘Abd Al-Rahman,” Nasser Al-Qaeda wrote: “Oh people of Egypt, it is time [to launch] a powerful movement to liberate the mujahid Sheikh ‘Omar ‘Abd Al-Rahman.
If you'll recall, Nick Berg had been held captive for a month by the time he was brutally murdered on video in the wake of the Abu Ghraib snowstorm in the American media (the culprits were already under prosecution and in fact the photos were released by one of the men when he was unable to secure a plea bargain arrangement to not release them, some would say that is blackmailing the government but I digress).
Another AlQaeda kidnap victim had escaped captivity the week before and was revealing details of his detention. Nick Berg posed a risk and AQ decided it was best to kill him while claiming the higher moral ground.
No,back then on news I remember every night,”Day 200 of the Hostage Crisis”,”Day 201 of the Hostage Crises”etc.,etc.
I was a kid back then, but I thought, who is this fool we have running our Country, same thing I’m thinking now.
Wow. All “prolonged unrest” for a video. How strange Arabs think!
Well, it must be partly Bush’s fault. How is Obama going to “shape the mideast” when people are allowed to make such videos?
Hey, I have one bright weird spot. I took a trip to DU (I know, I know, I took a shower) and they actually think the government bothering the filmmaker is WRONG! How I wish they could then draw the line to where the REAL problem lies - a self-decieving policy on the part of this amateur president in throwing out our best friend in the ME besides Israel- but that’s much too hard a step, I’m sure.
What I was thinking. Put Quickgun as commander. Siege much shorter.
Fourteen-hundred years and these people haven’t gotten anywhere other than they have modern weapons and cell phones. We should just leave them to consume themselves in their own hatred.
For flying off to a campaign fund-raiser in Las Vegas at the height of the crisis, obama should be impeached for dereliction of duty. He went AWOL.
A real American president would say that attacks on the US will be met in-kind. We will close our embassy and leave your people unemployed. We will send your diplomats and all their related intelligence gatherers home from America so they will lose their opulent lifestyles here. We will expose their adulterous lives here. We will publish photos and films of their diplomats drinking alcohol. We will cut off all monetary aid to your country - top to bottom. We will close your mosques. We will restrict official and tourist travel to your country. We will boycott your goods. We are freezing all your assets inside the United States.
And that is just for "openers"?
Bump!
Empty chair, empty suit, empty head. We all know what needs to be done, the muslism need a wake up call that mohammed will feel and if they manage to get up we give them a wake up call allah will feel and if they still dont get it we need to add some additional parking. Enough, we need a leader with balls and we need to show the world our power and our determination to preserve it! Lets roll
