This embassy and consulate are in freaking Libya which just overthrew a dictator. It was not in Switzerland! I don’t care how long it normally takes to get Marine guards in place, this is not a normal situation! Especially for the anniversary of 9/11, get some well armed Marines there for protection on the double! It was just so stupid and needless for the Ambassador and the other Americans to have to die because of the ineptitude of this administration! What a disgrace!

The Marines have overnight or quicker delivery of units. Any Marine Detachment on a Naval ship in the area could have flow in at a momnets notice. Naval detachment Marines would have fit the Embassy requirements 95% +........The training for the two assignments are very similiar, AND they are all at least basically trained Marine infantrymen, if not full on combat veteran grunts.
