The consulate where the American ambassador to Libya was killed on Tuesday is an “interim facility” not protected by the contingent of Marines that safeguards embassies, POLITICO has learned.

Ambassador Chris Stevens was killed with three other Americans in an attack on the U.S. consulate in the city of Benghazi, where Libyan rebels ousted strongman Moammar Qadhafi last year.

Marine Corps spokeswoman Capt. Kendra Motz said that Marines were not posted to the consulate, unlike the embassy in the capital, Tripoli.

Because it was a consulate, and not an embassy. An embassy is the territorial property of the represented nation. A consulate is just a secondary location hosted in smaller buildings, usually to support American civilians or activities in that area. It has no special legal rights, and is no more "ours" than any other building belongs to its tenants. Our embassy in Libya is in Tripoli.

The same thing happens in the U.S. and other countries. China has an embassy in Washington D.C. that is guarded by Chinese soldiers and is considered Chinese soil. China also has consulates in New York, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. These consulates are in regular office buildings and are considered to be American soil. We'd all be pretty pissed if the Chinese brought a bunch of soldiers onto our soil.

It's important to remember that our soldiers have no legal rights in other countries, unless those countries are under the control of the American military. Libya isn't one of those countries. We don't occupy or control them. Legally, our soldiers have the same rights there as tourists and other visitors. There are very few nations that allow heavily armed tourists to walk around their cities. Even fewer will allow foreign soldiers to occupy locations outside of their embassies.

OK I am confused. Two Marines were killed but now they weren't there?

Obama said Libyan Security Forces fought side by side with the Marines but they weren't there?

Then we find out the Libyan Security Forces fingered the Ambassador and told the mob what building he was in.

Then Obama said that the Libyans rushed the Ambassador to the Hospital but CBS reports the mob drug him through the streets. Now CBS is captioning the photo of him being drug through the streets as locals trying to rush the unconscious Ambassador to the hospital.

Folks we are being lied to. This whole situation stinks to high heaven. I am literally watching these stories and you can see the work of the ministry of truth redacting and morphing the meme to give an advantage to Obama.

The issue of the open mic that reveals the MSM reporters colluding to Ambush Romney is chilling. YET NO ONE IS CALLING FOR THOSE REPORTERS TO BE FIRED. NOT EVEN THE RNC.

In an August blog post, Draper said the ambassador was “legendary” in Libya because he stayed in the country through the revolution, “liaising with the rebels and leading a skeleton crew of Americans on the ground to support humanitarian efforts and meeting up-and-coming political leaders.”

So far, James Taranto in the WSJ, Best of the Web, is the only one telling the truth about the situation.

I have been thinking that the command went out from the White House to the media that the US had to speak as one voice in this dangerous foreign policy situation and that Romney is not that one voice. I think the order went down to support the White House, no matter what.
