But no Republican leader [other than Romney] criticized President Obama on Wednesday morning. They called instead for stronger security at U.S. diplomatic facilities, the swift capture and punishment of the perpetrators and a renewed commitment to pro-democracy efforts in the Arab world.
Now is a time for healing, Ryan (R-Wis.) told a crowd in De Pere, Wis., during a campaign stop. He made no criticism of Obama in his remarks.
House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) said in a statement: We mourn for the families of our countrymen in Benghazi, and condemn this horrific attack. Eleven years after September 11, this is a jolting reminder that freedom remains under siege by forces around the globe who relish violence over free expression, and terror over democracy and that America and free people everywhere must remain vigilant in defense of our liberties.
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) added in a separate statement that, These attacks will not deter America from continuing to promote peace, democracy, individual and religious freedom and an unwavering respect for human life throughout the region and the world.
In the Senate, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) usually reserves his morning Senate floor remarks to sharply criticize Obama administration policy. But Wednesday he struck a more somber tone and expressed support for employing every available tool at our disposal to ensure the safety of Americans overseas and to hunt down those responsible for these attacks.
Even Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) a troika that regularly critiques the Obama administrations foreign policy urged Obama to continue supporting democracy efforts in Libya and Egypt.

GOP is done, spineless cowards who are hanging on tot heir elitist old guard ways.
Sarah ,Col Allen West etc please make the conservative party and to hel with the GOP , I;m done back in 2008 with it and I see the same mistakes again by them.
How can we not win even when jug ears has the media when the country is failing, all the numbers going in thw wring direction, his foriegn policy has been awful and a disaster , to make it worse half of the talk radio lot are not willing to mention conservative social issues or even mention the homostapo and their NAZI thuggery on people.
Hell Hannity always praises jug ears when it comes to Bin Laden as if saying get him took courage
No doubt the tragedy got to him...or he just found out his appointment at the tanning salon got cancelled.
The issue here is not what Romney said or when he said it, both of which were absloutley appropriate. The issue is that our Secretary of State and our President were not able to condemn the murder of our diplomat without throwing in an attack on the right of Americans to speak as the wish. In so doing they implicitly justified the killing. There is no moral equivalence between murder and a movie. Had they even viewed the film before they conceded that it was insulting to the delicate sensibilities of Salafist Muslims? How about defending free speach instead of attacking it or regretting it for crying out loud!
The press is the enemy of our Republic. And I read somewhere that nearly all the press people pay NO income taxes, or they are cheating on their income taxes. PRESS PEOPLE ===PAY YOUR TAXES ! You will be turned in!
Allen West joined Romney in criticizing the Cairo embassy craven apology.

This was better than the response of the GOP last time the animals went on a rampage against free speech over the koran burning protest of the NY victory mosque. No one is calling for surrender to Shira this time like Petraus and Graham did last time. They are calling for “justice” rather than submission. That’s an improvement.
“”This is a major incident and Obama blew it big time.””
Sorry to disagree with you. I think Obama will get a huge bounce from this. People forget when the Iranians took over the embassy in 1979, Carter’s approval rating surged and remained high for 6 months. Failure of the GOP to back up Romney makes him look weak. Ryan’s statements certainly don’t help. People aren’t going to throw out Obama who has 4 years foreign policy experience for two guys who have none if the world blows up. Intrade has Obama surging above 62%. This event could be the die that seals obamas victory.
Comeuppance will come, but not this soon.

Correct.
And note to Freepers: BY ATTACKING OTHER REPUBLICANS, YOU ARE MAKING THE MEDIA COORDINATED DISTRACTION ATTACK WORK.
The media knows that Obama stepped in it and is deep doodoo, so they went into overdrive to attack Romney and isolate him. This article is pure agenda journalism.
Quit attacking Republicans. The people to condemn are:
a) the Islamic terrorists who killed a US ambassador, and
b) anyone who acts cravenly towards them (like the Cairo embassy in their statement)
And for lunch today we’ll be serving the sheeple GOP-e Gello!
“Let Romney attack Obama on this”.
...the only way to win this November is for ALL of the GOP to be on the attack for this. In 1979 ALL the GOP attacked Carter for his record, not just Reagan. America wants to see some leadership and some asses kicked, not “now is the time for healing” BS!
They are weak.
Because they are wienies and are happy with the status quo. I was surprised a a couple of the comments though.
It looks as if Romney is the only one with a steel set.
Amazing that one reporter was smart, brave and loyal enough to even ask a challenging question. That God for small favors.
Amen
That was supposed to be “THANK God for small favors.” Forgive me. :)
Sadly I agree with you
Mushy independents will flock to Obama now
Trying to convince others here gets you labeled a Obama supporter
“Wheres John Boehner?”
Having a martini and a good cry. Its 5:00 PM somewhere.
And therein lies the problem. Bunch of neutered girly men up there on Crapitol Hell. I’m voting for Mittens not because I want to but because I have to but if he takes on that bunch of neanderthals over there with swift, non-politically correct action to stop this madness I’ll stand right there with him.
this needs to be said:
This tragic attack is blowback for support of islamicist radicals in the guise of the ‘Arab spring’.
The Obama administration incited and engaged in a war in Libya in a ‘democracy in mid east’ neo-Wilsonian policy. The ambassador just killed was the man who worked with militants to make it happen. It is ironic that he helped the extremists who probably ended up killing him. but we knew going in that the extremists in Libya were the guys who went to Iraq to kill Americans during the Iraq war. They are Al Qaeda sympathizers.
And they returned to their true form in the attack yesterday.
So you have to ask yourself: Why did Obama feed the hand that bites us?
I don't think Carter had already been through quite as much controversy as Obama.
I think this will hurt Obama with a public already unsure of his abilities...particularly because he's supposed to come up with defense cut plans (already a week late). I do believe he's not going to know what to do.
