Academics' Plan to Boycott Ariel U Revealed

Some of Israel's leading academic figures who identify themselves as protectors of democracy have revealed their intolerant side in an email exchange regarding Ariel University Center, which is poised to be recognized as Israel's eighth university.

In a new webzine called Mida, Akiva Bigman quotes from an e-mail message board that serves Israeli lecturers on social sciences.

Prof. Emanuel Sivan of Hebrew University wrote thus to his colleagues: "We can use our international connections to prevent publications by researchers from Ariel. We simply need to avoid discussing their proposals for research and publication, especially in the periodicals where we serve as members… In addition we should not present papers, not take part in conferences and not give lectures together with lecturers from that supposed university."

Sivan added that it is possible to avoid "accepting their researchers to post-doctorates programs, research scholarships and visits as guest lecturers in universities in Israel and abroad."

Apparently aware of the illegality of his call, Sivan adds that "all of the above is, of course, is up to the personal decision of each and every one of us."

So they'd let Ariel U build its own academic culture from the ground up, and refuse to have any input whatever in its scholarly life. Not the briar patch, boss. Oh, no, not that.

The article makes no mention of why this is happening. Can you explain?

That sounds very similar to the way the “science” community conspired to prevent publication of peer reviewed “denier” articles in “their” “science” journals.

The Ariel University Center is in cooperation with international organizations and universities all over the world.[4][5][6][7] Even though there have been several boycotts of the college and its staff, both within Israel and internationally, due to the college being located in occupied territory.[8][9] These boycotts are being condemned against, both within Israel and internationally.[10][11][12]

On 17 July 2012, the Council for Higher Education in Judea and Samaria passed a resolution to grant full university status to the university center.[13] This move was praised by the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Minister of Education Gideon Saar, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman and some Knesset members[14] and Nobel Prize in Economics winning mathematician Robert Aumann.[15] This move was condemned by the Council of Presidents of Israeli Universities, over 1000 Israeli academics and Palestinians

“Prof. David Levy-Faur of Hebrew University encourages his colleagues to take heart: “Do not despair. We gave back Sinai, we left Gaza, we will solve the problem of the other territories as well… but unfortunately it will cost another war or two. We are in the midst of a change in the tactics of the struggle. From a civil protest that characterized our actions since 1967, to civil resistance. The goal should be to bring all of the settlers home by the fiftieth year of the occupation, 2017.”

Maybe this gives you an inkling of what is afoot.

They’re all the Jewish version of cheese-eating surrender monkeys. You know, give back enough land and the thankful Arabs will be nice in return. What fools!

The left has as strong a foothold in Israel as it does here. They had too much power for too long. Israel has paid, and will continue to pay, a heavy, heavy price for it.

Ariel U is in Samaria, and this offends the left-wing sensibilities of the academicians. Ehud Barak has been dragging his feet every which way he could,
