I don't think that any president of this Republic is a Roman Emperor, German Kaiser or Egyptian Pharaoh. No other world leader has anywhere near the accouterments of a modern US president, not even close. Having worked for the executive and been a bodyguard, I know how much of that is grandiosity, waste and gold-plating. And what in the world does your son in Afghanistan have to do with this discussion? I thank him for serving, but again, I don't see how he fits in here.

The unfortunate fact is that people ARE working to kill the president and his family every day. He deserves every bit of protection he gets. If the left had bitched about the gas mileage of the presidential limo when Bush was in office, you might have a point. But they didn’t, so you don’t.
