Don’t be too quick to write off Akin. While you say he might be “poison”, his opponent is so wacko leftist that many Missourians will hold their noses and vote for Akin, in addition to those who figure that he shouldn’t be forced out for misspeaking just once.
The trouble is that no major non-partisan poll with credibility has happened since just after the gaffe. Two or more minor polls have shown Akin mostly recovered, but it won’t be official until a pollster like Rasmussen polls again.
So at this point, Akin’s biggest opponent is not the Democrat, but those members of his own party that are trying to destroy him.
And they may be doing so not because of his gaffe, but because they hope to put a RINO in his seat. So the question becomes: “what to do if he *recovers* in the polls, but the Republican leadership still wants to destroy him?”
At that point, *he* is not the problem.
You might be right. Conservatives in other states are seeing the stupidity of the GOPe in action in this matter, how they are treating a fellow party member, and are appalled and may just not support GOP candidates in November.
the best the GOP can do now is to keep their distance from him.
that works both ways and those who side with Akin may just remember that in November -- and not just in Missouri.
Karl Rove and his disgusting murder comment in regards to Akin gets a free pass?? Yet Akin was duly elected to represent conservative Republicans in Missouri. We are being asked to support Romney despite the fact the majority of Missouri supported other superior candidates. The RNC would be wise to reciprocate the favor and support the candidate duly elected to represent Missouri. Let the voters decide. Not the party bosses like Rove.
It is appalling the RNC and the NSRC would ignore a true Christian Conservative like Akin. It exposes their true colors. And they will get no money for their objectives. My money will stay in Missouri for Missouri candidates.
Not a valid reason.
All candidates in all states have to a certain date to drop out yet they pick on Akin. Your statement is not valid.
No, what Todd Akin did was outrageous and his refusal to get out of the race was outrageous allowing a media firestorm to reverse the momentum we had been gaining going into our convention. The damage that caused is detrimental. Akin was McCaskill’s and the Democrat party’s hand picked candidate to be her opponent - apparently with good reason.
The NRSC and other party organizations already had announced they would not recognize or associate with that campaign given the politically toxic remarks - now you are surprised they are in fact not recognizing the campaign? Sarah Palin, Allen West, etc. all called on him to drop out as well.
No, he was the choice of McCaskill and her liberal allies. She spent millions to assist him in getting the nomination.
There is merit to that argument but the for the fact the subject of the misspeaking was rape...if it was about taxes, economy, etc. he would have been laughed at and ridiculed by the left and media but not written off. Rape is a considerable more dangerous topic to misspeak on.
The NRSC and especially Sarah Palin and Allen West should know better. They basically ran a fully loaded fuel truck into a burning building by their remarks. The flames were going out and Akin was gaining in the polls. Even overtaking McCaskill. Now, we start getting this stupid circular firing squad started up again by the NRSC playing their childish games.
This is beyond belief!!!
I consider suggesting to have him murdered is. Have you heard any of the GOPe mention anything about those remarks and suggesting Rove step down? And, as far as the rape remark, how about talking to the DNC platform committee about their pro-abortion baby killing party rally. I think killing babies on demand for no reason is reason enough to kick out ALL those in favor (including the guy below who make this statement......
If Akin dropped his pride , he could turn his race over to another person who still could win like Talent or Bond. It could be a winnable seat but this guy appears not only stubborn but dumb in that he is not willing to just run for his House seat, which he can do and allow the Pubs to win this Senate seat. It is an outrage.
(Akin 44% McCaskill 43%)
Ubber RINOs Talent and Bond already said they wouldn’t run.
“The National Republican Senatorial Committee omitted Todd Akins name from their map and shows McCaskill running unopposed in Missouri!!!!!!!!!! are they trying to throw the election? Cornyn heads up the committee and I have called his office and emailed him. Outrageous!”
Two years ago Cornball came out for SunTan Charlie Crist over Rubio in the Florida primary. I’ve got my differences with Rubio, but obviously if the NRSC was going to get involved in a primary at all (which they shouldn’t do), backing Crist over Rubio shows that they do not see electing conservatives as part of their core mission.
Since Akin as a congressman voted against some of the Republican backed statist programs like MediPill, he obviously would not fit in well with the mainstay of the GOP: Lamar Alexander, Olympia Snowe, Lindsey Graham, etc. Akin would be as unwelcome in their circle as Sarah Palin.
Then there must be a conserv that MO. knows who can step in. Elmer Fudd should be able to defeat Claire.
I’m not familiar with the remarks - though I am familiar with the fact that Rove is not a candidate so he can’t “step down” - making that a meaningless argument.
Actually they actively recruited Crist to get into the race - as the sitting popular governor I guess that made sense at the time. I seriously doubt at this point they are unhappy with the fact Rubio ended up besting him...not only because of Crist’s behavior since then but also Rubio is a much better asset to the party than Crist could have been had he not become a turncoat.
Meanwhile, the rats have al frankenstein, and dingy Harry, etc.,etc.,ilk.
Rove was White House Deputy Chief of Staff for George W. Bush. He's now a political consultant (hack) that uses the media to gets his message across that the GOP RINOS are gods and should be bowed down to.
He needs to just climb under a rock and stop helping the marxist kenyan win another term.
Absolutely not accurate.
