R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion" was used in the Fox News coverage of the Democratic National Convention last night. R.E.M. today, through its music publisher, Warner-Tamerlane Music, demanded that Fox News cease and desist from continuing its unlicensed and unauthorized use of the song. Michael Stipe said, "We have little or no respect for their puff adder brand of reportage. Our music does not belong there."
Are they still on PBS? Oh....that’s Lawrence Welk.....I always get them mixed up.
I remember thinking back then that he & his band should just happily accept their award(s) and leave out the politics. Especially since he was taking advantage of the fact that he had a captive audience (both in attendance & the viewers on tv).
He added, "Now if they had a cesspool-scraping, dung beetle, whiny teen-age girly angst brand of reportage, our music would have a home."
“UPDATE: A Fox News spokesman responds: FOX News Channels use of an R.E.M. song during Thursdays edition of Fox & Friends was in full accordance with its license agreements with all appropriate parties. Nevertheless, were always flattered to have this much attention for a song selection and we hope R.E.M. was able to satisfy their publicity fix.
nice smackdown by Fox.
UGH! Don’t want to let my mind go there, LOL.
Here--"Sure, we won't play your music if you refund money to every Republican, every conservative, and every Fox News watchers who ever bought your music."
Liberals PIRATE music. Conservatives pay for it, which turns into royalties.
Somebody DO IT.
Welk probably played to more eyes on more occasions over a longer career when the population was smaller than did REM.
“Actually, this is pretty much what Rush Limbaugh said to Chrissy Hynde.”
That’s not how Hynde put it. She said that while she has different politics, her parents like him and Rush paid her a great big fee, so she’s fine with it.
I would have taken them, scalped`em, then donated the proceeds to the conservative candidate of my choice.
It plays hell on what little brain cells he has left.
Hey REM let’s put your “music” is quotation marks, ok?
For a band that ceased to be relevant years ago (that song is about 20 years old, aint it?), you’d think that they’d pay for any exposure.
If I had to save humanity it could be the end of the world as we know it and I wouldn’t be able to name one either.
Oh Life is bigger
It's bigger than you
And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to,
The distance in your eyes Oh, no I've said too much
I set it up
That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh, no I've said too much
I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try
Every whisper,
Every waking hour I'm
Choosing my confessions
Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt, lost and blinded fool, fool
Oh, no I've said too much
I set it up [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/r/rem/losing+my+religion_20115307.html ] Consider this Consider this The hint of the century Consider this The slip that brought me To my knees, failed What if all these fantasies Come flailing around Now I've said too much I thought that I heard you laughing I thought that I heard you sing I think I thought I saw you try But that was just a dream That was just a dream That's me in the corner That's me in the spotlight Losing my religion Trying to keep up with you And I don't know if I can do it Oh, no I've said too much I haven't said enough I thought that I heard you laughing I thought that I heard you sing I think I thought I saw you try But that was just a dream Try, cry, why try That was just a dream, just a dream, just a dream, dream
Right Michael. Belongs on elevators and in restrooms.
If Romney wins, it will be The End of the World As They Know It.....And I feel fine.
Now THAT was funny!
Regards,
Losing My Religion??? The Dems never had a religion to lose.
I very much doubt that they even know what a puff-adder is.
You can't. You'd be financially broken. Copyright laws and all.
