R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion" was used in the Fox News coverage of the Democratic National Convention last night. R.E.M. today, through its music publisher, Warner-Tamerlane Music, demanded that Fox News cease and desist from continuing its unlicensed and unauthorized use of the song. Michael Stipe said, "We have little or no respect for their puff adder brand of reportage. Our music does not belong there."

I remember seeing a clip of one of the music awards shows back in the 80's or early-90's and Stipe must've had on about a dozen t-shirts, each with a different political message on it (all liberal, of course).

I remember thinking back then that he & his band should just happily accept their award(s) and leave out the politics. Especially since he was taking advantage of the fact that he had a captive audience (both in attendance & the viewers on tv).
