Preppers com in all shapes and sizes just like any group of people, most don’t even agree on what they are prepping for, but all of them agree on a fews things one the best hand up you can get is one you give yourself. All of them refuse to be a prop in the backdrop money shot for some news achor showing them standing on a bridge waiting for FEMA to bring them a bottle of water, an MRE and a warm banket.
Most feel like Marcella that you either prepare to stand on your own beholden to no one or you end up becoming dependent on others to provide your basic needs and become thier‘serf’.
For myself like Marcella I don’t want to be beholden to anyone for providing what is needed for me and mine. I certainly don’t want to have to kiss some ‘gubberment’ third class bureaucratic butt to try and coax some help from them, I don’t want some ‘jack booted’ thug herding me in line and telling me where to stand, sit, eat or sleep.
And last but not least I don’t want to be shut up in with a bunch of ‘zombies’ and have to worry about not only trying to get basic necessities but having to fight to keep what I manage to get.
That’s what the heart of prepping is all about.

I’m not turning my body over to the federal government. I will decide whether I live or die. Unless all my preps are totally destroyed, I will live better than the refugees.
I’m thinking the townhall meetings for Obamacare & actually having closed door briefings on the various financial shenanigans that have been going on like MF Global. They have realized albeit way to late that things are going to take a nuclear weapons grade shit & that the American people will blame them & they don’t really want to end up hanging from a tree limb or street light .
Perhaps I wasn’t clear.
In most, if not all zombie movie, novels, games and lore, one of the fundamental necessities in the event of a zombie uprising is the ability to destroy the undead quickly and efficiently. Even the most obtuse federal government drone should know this if he has ANY grasp of the genre.
What is the most efficient way to do this? Firearms and a large cache of ammo. Not dehydrated food or a Berkey water filter, but the venerable Boom Stick.
As you correctly pointed out, there was nothing directly pointing to the feds suggesting up arming, but in the context of Zombie Apocalypse, this would be understood by anyone who understands the concept and recognizes the implied need to defend oneself from waves of undead.
I hope this clarifies the point of my statement and follow on question.
Aw, comon, Marcella. I’d let you be one of the living ones! Heck, I might even give you the task of culling through the refugees looking for the cutest chicks to bring up to my office! That’s a responsibility, right there!
The light bulb of truth started with me in 1998. I thought why am I running around grabbing stuff for a coming hurricane when I could have that stored all the time? I went from that thinking to realizing if trucks stopped, I would die and I'm not high on the list for government to save.
After all these years of prepping, constantly changing preps as new products came about, I don't have to depend on anyone to live. The federal government can take a flying leap into chaos and I won't be there. AND NEITHER WILL YOU, my buddy prepper.
Sorry, I didn’t make it clear. I was referring to Homelame Security. No doubt the CDC has some good folks there, in general, I have little trust in their “leadership” or their leadership’s motivation since these positions are typically appointed. I say “theirs” when it should be “ours”.

When the government fails to get the water/food to you to distribute to these refugees, come see me and I'll keep you alive but not them.
They’re talking about 3 day preps. Just long enough for CDC, FEMA, et al to get their act together and move the government teat into your neighborhood.
They’re still suspicious unto hostile of anyone prepping for more than a month of real breakdown, and moreso anyone ready for actual indefinite self-sufficiency - because such people are not relying on the providence of the almighty government. Would-be deities are not kind to heretics.

When I was a child, maybe 6-7, I would go into the woods behind our house and eat purple berries. Never occurred to me to think they could be poison. They were small berries, way smaller than a blackberry or such.
I don't know what is safe to eat in the woods but I would eat it rather than be with hungry zombie refugees.
This guy is lucky he did not get shot.
