Anonymous group allegedly hacked Romney tax records via Franklin firm

An anonymous individual or group is alleging that they have gained "all available 1040 tax forms" of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney by accessing computers in the Franklin office of the professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers.

An anonymous posting on a file sharing website states that PwC has been hacked. This same website has been used by hackers who have claimed to have infiltrated computers from companies like Apple in the past.

An excerpt from one message states...

I see it differently. If they had Romney’s taxes, they would release one ‘scandalous’ item from them, every few days. The idea would be to keep Romney on the defensive, all the time, for the next 60 days. That’s the whole reason Romneywon’t release them...he’d be spending all his time explaining legitimate tax deductions to the sheeple.

I doubt this outfir has anything...especially if all they have is the 1040’s. The 1040’s alone would prove Harry wrong (surely Romney paid taxes), but wouldn’t have all the schedules to cherry pick half truths from.

The main reason bummer wants the tax records is so he can deflect and redirect focus on a non-issue. He's ALWAYS done this. If Romney were to release all those tax records, Obama and family would jump all over something (even if it's NOTHING) and make the election about that. Romney knows this and has rightly refused to release them.

If it's true that someone has stolen these records, I don't think it's a great thing for Obama. I don't think Obama and the media can use them in the same way as if Romney had released them. Democrats will continue to clammer for Romney to release these. Romney cannot release those tax returns under any circumstances. If he does, he loses. If he does not, and he runs a decent campaign, he wins.

With one phone call he could have all Federal records on any individual delivered to the West Wing.

And he probably already has. But he can't make them public.

He could give them to someone else who can claim to have gotten them by hacking a server.

I think this is entirely false. I found a few articles saying that the source of this was a originally a satire article.

But even if it is true. It will blow up in their face. They won’t find anything significant.

I think that they will keep building up on this “he won’t release his taxes” so there must be something he is obviously hiding.

Then Romney will release his taxes and they will find nothing, nadda, zip. And the Democrats will Look like the fools that they are once again.

I agree. Nothing is easier than creating a tax form and putting any figures in it you decide. There is absolutely no way to prove the forms the show (if they do show them)are legitimate unless the IRS confirms them, which they will not or Romney confirms them which he will not.

“Romney’s 1040 tax returns were taken from the PWC office 8/25/2012 by gaining access to the third floor via a gentleman working on the 3rd floor of the building. Once on the 3rd floor, the team moved down the stairs to the 2nd floor and setup shop in an empty office room. During the night, suite 260 was entered, and all available 1040 tax forms for Romney were copied. A package was sent to the PWC on suite 260 with a flash drive containing a copy of the 1040 files, plus copies were sent to the Democratic office in the county and copies were sent to the GOP office in the county at the beginning of the week also containing flash drives with copies of Romney’s tax returns before 2010. A scanned signature image for Mitt Romney from the 1040 forms were scanned and included with the packages, taken from earlier 1040 tax forms gathered and stored on the flash drives.

The group will release all available files to the public on the 28 of September, 2012.”

I agree. The dems are just begging for a distraction. I’m sure they (the dems) know there’s nothing in Romney’s tax returns as well. But they do want to act like there’s something wrong with them. Does not have to be true.

I’m quite sure there is no ‘there, there’, but speaking to the hack. It’s one thing to claim that you hacked a computer file, isn’t disclosing ‘with out consent’ private tax forms a federal offence. Being a federal offence and the target being a presidential candidate, would not the Secret Service take the lead in finding the culprit’s. Stealing from the public is one thing, stealing from the next president of the USA someting else entirely.
