The irony to all of this is that the two best bridges to MOST minorities are 1) social conservatism generally, and 2) strong domestic economy. These things resonate with most Latins, Indians (both kinds), Asians and many blacks. These things also resonate with with many white labor union types outside of the education racket and government.
Reagan understood this. The Voodoo Republicans of the Northeast never have, or do not care.
I don't know any of those "Voodoo Republicans" you mention, though it is certainly true that in heavily blue-dominated states, the only way Republicans ever get elected is by appearing more purple than red, so to speak.
Again, I think the issue being addressed here is more the appearance of "whiteness" at the convention than any dispute over Conservative principles.
